Country music has always been focused on telling real stories about love, heartbreak, friends, family, and faith.

Singer-songwriter Eric Paslay, 33, knows how to tell those stories almost better than anybody. He is a platinum-selling songwriter with five No. 1 hits, is an amazing performer, and takes time to give back to others.

His newest single, “Angels in This Town,” is the perfect example of his inspirational and beautiful songwriting talent.

“Most songs are from stories you’ve heard or stories you’ve lived — at least most country songs are,” the Texas native told LifeZette in a telephone interview. “It’s true to somebody even if it’s not autobiographical to yourself. But you never know what other people see through their eyes. You might have had a guardian angel walking with you that someone about to mug you saw, [but] you didn’t even know was there.”

Miracles are a central theme of his new single — and that has inspired him to make miracles happen for so many people around the country by working in service projects during his tour stops.

“The other cool thing we’re getting to do — we call them ‘Angel Visits,’ in honor of the song and of the tour — is go out to children’s hospitals, hospices, fire departments, police departments, Habitat for Humanity builds, and Boys and Girls clubs. And we thank the angels in this town and in every town,” explained Paslay.

So why has he chosen to make this a priority? One or two visits to give back is already going above and beyond — but Paslay has chosen to do these “Angel Visits” in every single city he goes to.

“It’s important to use good for good,” Paslay said. “It’s good to make sure you use the pedestal to influence kids to do something good for their lives.”

And it seems his own music has inspired the singer to focus on “creating miracles in each other’s lives,” as he explained.

Despite all of his incredible success, Palsay’s humility shines through when he discusses this project that is so close to his heart.

“It’s not about us. It’s just kind of cool to go inspire some kids to chase something big.”

When asked about his decision to do this charity work, Paslay said simply, “It’s just the right thing to do. Mainly, the song ‘Angels in This Town’ is about miracles happening in people’s lives, but also that we can create miracles in each other’s lives as well.”

He isn’t stopping these “Angel Visits” any time soon.

“My goal is to do these through the rest of my career. It’s just really cool to get to do that and thank everybody.”

Paslay also has worked on a partnership with Dexcom. “Those wings [see the image within this story] are sponsored by Dexcom, who I’ve gotten to meet with. They’ve been doing a lot of work in juvenile diabetes and I’m a juvenile diabetic myself, so it’s a huge thing in my life.”

“They have a thing called a CGM [a continuous glucose monitoring system], which is just really cool. My wife can see it when I’m on the road. It makes sure my blood sugar levels aren’t low because of our crazy tour schedule. And then my tour manager, when I’m on stage, can actually see my blood sugar levels from his iPhone,” said Paslay.

Eric Paslay’s commitment to serving the less fortunate, to inspiring children, and to making his success about someone else rather than himself is defining him as an artist and as a person.
