Ever since the release of the investigative Planned Parenthood videos last year, the dark truths of the abortion industry are slowly and surely still emerging.

Leading the charge on this is the Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives, chaired by Rep. Marsha Blackburn. Focused on exposing the truth behind the sale of fetal tissue in America, the House committee released its “Interim Update” over the summer — and there’s still more to come.

The committee has issued 36 subpoenas so far in an effort to closely examine potential financially profitable relationships between abortion clinics and tissue procurement organizations. LifeZette sat down with Rep. Blackburn to discuss the group’s progress and find out what’s next for the committee.

“We are really drilling down, if you will, on the relationship between the abortion clinic that has been put under contract by a fetal tissue organization — there are eight of those organizations — and we are looking at that business relationship between the two,” she explained.

Through its work, the committee is “beginning to find out how this industry has sprung up,” explained Blackburn. “Because, by the way, it is against the law.”

Yes, it’s against federal law, since 42 U.S.C. §289g-2(a) confirms: “It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly acquire, receive, or otherwise transfer any human fetal tissue for valuable consideration if the transfer affects interstate commerce.”

While the conclusive proof will be revealed in bank statements that have been subpoenaed, other components of this investigation suggest a considerable argument for guilt. Beyond even the financial issue, the exploitation of women is also in question — particularly when one looks at how these procurement organizations work.

“To think that someone would take that fetus as it’s aborted and then dissect that fetus to take a certain body part is just horrific.”

“One procurement organization in particular has a website. People can log onto the website, request a certain gestational age for a certain body part, and then check out requesting a certain shipment day,” explained Blackburn. “We are very concerned about the manipulations of abortions for the order that the procurement organizations has.”

Another problem is the consent forms that patients are asked to sign before their abortions. These are also under scrutiny for exploiting women in desperate circumstances.

“We had all of the witnesses, Democrat and Republican, say they felt that the [consent] form was misleading and that raised a lot of questions about the form, the ethics involved in the form, and the misleading nature of the form,” said Blackburn.

“And many times, bear in mind, these are individuals who are underage,” she added. “So they are doing this without parental consent. I think parents would be appalled and horrified if they knew their child had been subjected to this at a time of great distress for this child.”

The investigation is ongoing, but it has already brought to light serious concerns that the abortion industry is exploiting women much more than helping them.

“That’s what is so interesting to me — and I’ve had friends who have said they’re pro-choice and have been, or maybe they donated to Planned Parenthood starting back in the ’70s because [the organization] provided health care access for women in underserved areas,” said Blackburn.

“Through this process of the videos taking place and the subsequent conversations, they’ve come to realize that Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of abortions in the country, and that is its primary business. They did not know that. They could not believe that in the United States of America in 2016, there would be entities that would be selling human body parts in this country,” said Blackburn.

And what about a possible Hillary Clinton presidency? Blackburn is concerned for the unborn, given that just last year Clinton confirmed she doesn’t think unborn persons have constitutional rights.

“What would she do when it comes to the life protections for the unborn? What would she do if she had the opportunity?” Blackburn asked, confirming she is working to make sure a Hillary presidency doesn’t happen.

“To think about how atrocious it is that someone would take that fetus as it’s aborted and then would dissect that fetus to take a certain body part is something that is just horrific in nature,” Blackburn said.

This investigation is far from over — and the more facts that come to the surface, the worse it is looking for the abortion industry.
