A 20-year-old male was arrested by the Detroit Police Department this week after discovering a video from social media in which he violently assaults an elderly man in a nursing home.

The incident occurred at the Westwood Nursing Center in northwest Detroit and is believed to be racially motivated according to those involved with the case.

The graphic video shows the 20-year-old, who was also being treated for undisclosed reasons at the nursing home, spewing profanities while punching the man repeatedly to the point of drawing blood. After the assault he attempted to wipe the blood from the elderly man to hide his wounds.

Thankfully the video was discovered and the suspect was arrested without incident. At a press conference Thursday, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said “the nursing home was unaware of the assault until they saw the video” and added that, “we are still investigating that aspect of the case, but we do have a suspect in custody.” According to police, this is not the first time the suspect has battered an elderly individual; authorities claim another video depicts the same man beating a female senior citizen.

The incident has garnered national attention, even getting a tweet from President Trump who said, “Is this even possible to believe? Can this be for real? Where is this nursing home, how is the victim doing?”
