A forthcoming book by CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson reveals that advisers to Joe Biden privately discussed the possibility of Joe Biden using a wheelchair if he secured reelection in 2024, due to what the authors describe as significant physical deterioration.

The book, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, is based on interviews with more than 200 individuals, primarily Democratic Party insiders.

Scheduled for release on May 20, the book claims Biden’s health challenges were far more severe than the public was led to believe during his campaign for a second term.

According to an excerpt obtained by Axios, Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, reportedly warned aides in 2023 that if the president experienced another major fall, he could require the use of a wheelchair for recovery.

“Given Biden’s age, [his physician Kevin O’Connor] also privately said that if he had another bad fall, a wheelchair might be necessary for what could be a difficult recovery,” the book states.

“Biden’s physical deterioration — most apparent in his halting walk — had become so severe that there were internal discussions about putting the president in a wheelchair, but they couldn’t do so until after the election,” Tapper and Thompson wrote.

Biden’s unsteady gait had been attributed publicly to a foot injury he suffered in November 2020.

Throughout 2024, White House officials maintained that the president’s walk was the lingering result of the fracture and his choice not to continue wearing a walking boot.

However, the book disputes that explanation, citing Dr. O’Connor’s 2021 medical update that both fractures had “completely healed.”

The authors instead attribute the change in Biden’s mobility to “significant spinal arthritis,” which reportedly forced aides to adjust his schedule to accommodate periods of rest.

Keep in mind one of the authors, Jake Tapper, had all this to say in the years before his upcoming book release…

The book also details Biden’s fall at the Air Force Academy in June 2023, an incident that received widespread attention and was mocked by political opponents, including President Donald Trump.

According to the authors, the fall was more serious than previously disclosed, and internal friction reportedly arose between White House staff and Dr. O’Connor over Biden’s physical demands.

“His aides constantly argued with O’Connor, who was demanding more time for Biden to rest. He often quipped that the then-president’s aides were trying to kill him,” the book states.

A Biden spokesperson, who declined to be identified, pushed back on the book’s claims in a statement to Axios.

“He was transparent about this, and it was far from ‘severe,’” the spokesperson said, referring to Biden’s gait.

“Yes, there were physical changes as he got older, but evidence of aging is not evidence of mental incapacity.”

The spokesperson added: “We are still waiting for someone, anyone, to point out where Joe Biden had to make a presidential decision or make a presidential address where he was unable to do his job because of mental decline. In fact, the evidence points to the opposite — he was a very effective president.”

Despite this response, the book cites claims from multiple aides that Biden’s mental decline was noticeable by 2022.

One senior aide who left the White House in protest of Biden’s decision to run again told the authors, “We attempted to shield him from his own staff, so many people didn’t realize the extent of the decline beginning in 2023.”

Another source quoted in the book stated, “It was an abomination. He stole an election from the Democratic Party; he stole it from the American people,” referring to Biden’s decision to seek a second term.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is also reported to have confronted Biden in July 2024 during a visit to the former president’s home in Delaware.

“If you lose to Trump, 50 years of amazing, beautiful work goes out the window,” Schumer reportedly told Biden.

“But it’s worse than that — you will go down in American history as one of the darkest figures.”

The White House has not commented publicly on the content of the book ahead of its official release, but the GOP Oversight Committee put out a video…
