Whoopi Goldberg’s latest attempt at a gotcha moment against Elon Musk backfired spectacularly when she slammed SpaceX for receiving government contracts—without realizing that NASA is one of its biggest clients, as reported by The Independent Journal Review.

During Tuesday’s episode of “The View,” Goldberg ranted about government spending and took direct aim at Musk, claiming his private space exploration company was siphoning funds from NASA to line his own pockets. The problem? SpaceX isn’t replacing NASA—it’s working with it.

“Let me say some place that could really use a lot of cutting,” Goldberg fumed.

“Elon has very many government contracts. I think, because I don’t remember, maybe you all have heard it, I don’t remember looking for an armored car. I don’t care what it looks like, I don’t remember asking for it, I don’t know why I’m paying for it. I want to know, when did I say ‘hey, we need another agency next to NASA?’ So when did we start paying for his SpaceX? You know that he’s gonna be cutting NASA. That’s the competition. So what is the real deal here? If we want to cut some money, let’s cut some of these.”

Goldberg’s rant ignored the fact that SpaceX has been a crucial partner to NASA for years, providing transportation for astronauts, satellites, and critical space systems.

Instead of competing, the two entities are deeply intertwined, with NASA relying on SpaceX’s technology to advance its own space exploration goals.

Federal data shows SpaceX has secured over $18 billion in government contracts in the last decade, with NASA accounting for about $13 billion of that.

In 2021, NASA awarded SpaceX a $2.9 billion contract under its Artemis program, which aims to send humans—including the first woman—to the moon.

On top of that, the agency is working closely with SpaceX to develop a lunar lander, conduct uncrewed test missions, and facilitate crewed lunar landings.

Musk’s company is also instrumental in NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, which is focused on transporting astronauts to the International Space Station and beyond.

Her broadside against Musk also conveniently ignored how private innovation has reduced costs and accelerated advancements in space exploration, something NASA itself has acknowledged.

Musk, who has been a major critic of bloated government bureaucracy, is currently heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aiming to trim wasteful spending and streamline operations.

He recently shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which had been funneling billions into left-wing pet projects overseas. Now, he’s looking at other federal agencies to rein in reckless spending.

Whoopi’s latest blunder is just another example of Hollywood elites weighing in on things they don’t understand, hoping to score points against someone they irrationally despise. But as usual, the facts weren’t on her side—and this attack on Musk blew up in her face.
