Joe Biden, age 81, appeared unsteady as he walked through the sand at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, near his beach home on Sunday.

Video footage captured by CSPAN shows the outgoing president struggling to maintain his balance on the sand, even needing assistance from First Lady Jill Biden at one point. As he trudged forward, Jill Biden reached out to steady him by holding his arm.

The incident occurred just days after Vice President Kamala Harris lost the presidential election to former President Donald Trump, who is scheduled to meet with Biden at the White House on Wednesday.

Biden briefly attempted to quicken his pace toward a group of reporters who called out questions regarding his upcoming meeting with Trump, though he ultimately did not provide any answers, only shouting an inaudible word in response before retreating back toward a parking area.

The Republican National Committee’s social media account highlighted the scene, posting, “Biden is currently battling the sand at his beach house in Delaware. (The sand is winning.)”

Biden dressed casually for his beach outing, wearing jeans, a dark sweater, a ball cap, and sunglasses.

The First Couple walked along the water earlier in the day, with Jill Biden walking ahead of the president at one point as he stopped to check his phone.

The Bidens later returned to the White House a few hours after their outing.
