On Monday, CBS News published an article asserting some celebrities’ claims that they would be leaving Twitter when Elon Musk takes over the platform. Now that “Chief Twit,” as Musk calls himself, has full control, the accounts of virtually every celebrity mentioned remain in place.
While some mentioned, such as Rob Reiner, have continued to post on Twitter as recently as seven hours prior to this writing, many others have stopped posting but left their account in tact. This screams that these celebrities (or those who were celebrities at one time but now remain irrelevant in society) are petrified to become even more disconnected from people.

While some have appeared to stop posting on the platform, they have stopped short of actually deactivating their account, which is what would actually stick it to the Musk with declining accounts. They also conveniently are still left with their free publicity from previous posts and their followers.
“Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye,” wrote Shonda Rhimes on October 29. Her account remains, complete with 1.9 million followers.
Sara Bareilles wrote, also on October 29, “Welp. It’s been fun Twitter. I’m out. See you on other platforms, peeps. Sorry, this one’s just not for me.” Her account also remains, with 2.8 million followers.
The once famous Toni Braxton wrote on October 28, “I’m shocked and appalled at some of the “free speech” I’ve seen on this platform since its acquisition. Hate speech under the veil of “free speech” is unacceptable; therefore I am choosing to stay off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons and other POC.” One can only assume she was referring to Lebron James’ post about the “n-word” being used on Twitter, which Musk said is unfounded.
While Jameela Jamil didn’t post a dramatic farewell on her Twitter page, she did appear to stop posting as the last post was made on October 27. Her page and its one million followers remains published, along with her many posts promoting She Hulk. In April, she wrote, “One good thing about Elon buying twitter is that I will *FINALLY* leave and stop being a complete menace to society on here. So it’s win win for you all really.”
When another user asked her why she would want to leave simply because a new person purchased it, she said, “Because it’s going to become a lawless space of bigotry , misogyny, and xenophobia and people who already have no money… being manipulated about crypto.”
Shaun King’s page is still active, despite his tweets having been made private. He continues to show one million followers. Brian Koppelman’s page was also made private, yet he shows 129,600 followers.
Lesser known people who threatened to leave such as Erik Larsen and Mick Foley have appeared to stop posting, though their accounts remain active, and Ken Olin posted a farewell to his 292,700 followers, though his page is still active.
“Hey all.” Olin posted on October 28, “I’m out of here. No judgement. Let’s keep the faith. Let’s protect our democracy. Let’s try to be kinder. Let’s try to save the planet. Let’s try to be more generous. Let’s look to find peace in the world.” He also promoted Tribel Social Network, which appears to be a leftist attempt at a Gettr, Gab, Parlor, or Truth Social.
“We’re an innovative pro-democracy Twitter alternative that’s free of hatred & fake news. Download our iOS or Android app to join! App download link below,” the platform’s Twitter account reads. Tribel enjoys 71,200 Twitter followers and most of the posts with the platformed tagged are people who say they’re Democrats and badmouth Republicans and/or conservatives.
On November 1, weeks after Musk’s purchase, Occupy Democrats posted to its just under 500,000 followers, “If you’re looking for a new Twitter alternative that actually takes content moderation seriously, and already banned racists like Donald Trump, @DonaldJTrumpJr, and @kanyewest, check out @TribelSocial! Follow us on Tribel, here’s the [link]! Please RT!”
When one clicks on the Tribel website, they may see the most recent posts, but then a window pops up saying one needs a create an account to view more. “Tribel is a new and innovative social network that is taking the internet by storm. Create your account today to beat your friends to it! It’s free and always will be,” the window reads.
When scrolling what’s available, the majority of the posts appear to be bashing Elon Musk and Twitter, along with many Republicans. “Just reserving my spot until Elon burns Twitter to the ground. Hope to engage with you all on Tribel,” user Adam Fonseca wrote.
While Josh Gad remains actively posting on Twitter, on October 28 he wrote, “Large exodus happening on this platform. Not sure if I stay or not. Leaning toward staying, but if today is a sign of things to come, not sure what the point is. Freedom of speech is great. Hate speech intended to incite harm, (with no consequences) ain’t what I signed up for.”
It’s unclear when users will be able to see “hate speech intended to incite harm (with no consequences),” or a “large exodus” from Twitter.

They sound like all the dems that promised to move away from America if Trump became president. Every one of them are still here and never went anywhere….They all need to figure out that change is a universal law and that nothing remains the same, like most of their careers….
