A Missouri middle school teacher found himself at the center of heinous accusations for supposedly grooming and raping students at the school. The teacher in question was 30-year-old Brandon Holbrook, who was facing three counts of statutory rape and another six counts of statutory sodomy. On Monday, while he waited for his day in court, Holbrook was found unresponsive in his cell. Both correctional officers and medical staff tried to resuscitate the suspect, but he was ultimately pronounced dead at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Looking at the accusations against Brandon Holbrook, a 14-year-old girl claimed that the teacher found her on social media and started to exchange messages with her. It wasn’t long before a relationship formed, and he visited her home. The victim accused Holbrook of raping her three times during his trips and even threatened her if she ever told anyone about what happened.

After Brandon Holbrook was arrested, the school district sent a letter to parents explaining how they reacted when they received the news. “When the friend of a victim brought concerns to a Mehlville School District counselor on Monday, Sept. 12, district administrators immediately filed a report with the Division of Children’s Services in compliance with Missouri law. District administrators contacted St. Louis County Police and have provided information and assistance as they’ve requested it. The employee was made inactive on our substitute roster on Sept. 12.”

Sadly, it wasn’t long after Holbrook was in custody that other girls stepped forward, a local station reported, “Police do not know how many districts Holbrook worked for as a substitute teacher, and believe there may be more victims. Anyone with information about any additional victims is asked to call St. Louis County police.”

While there is an investigation into what happened to Brandon Holbrook, his attorney, Scott Rosenblum, admitted that his client was not suicidal. “A thorough investigation is in order. There’s no indication that this young man was suicidal. In fact, given the circumstances, he was upbeat.”

Online users offered their opinion on the news, writing, “His dying in jail was the only thing stopping his return to a classroom. Guarantee you some school district somewhere would have loved to give this guy control of a classroom full of little kids.”

Another person noted, “The teacher was accused of raping a 14-year-old student. He had found the girl on social media and began exchanging photos and messages in May. He allegedly raped her at her home on three different occasions and threatened her with keeping quiet. THREE TIMES !!!!! THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS ?????? ….. Something is very wrong with these accusations.”

And one simply put, “Dang, and just when Harris was trying to bail him out.”
