For well over a year now, parents have exposed the teaching materials surrounding gender identity and sexual orientation being taught to their children. While the Democrats criticized the parents for their outrage, it seems the agenda to expose children to such material goes far beyond the classroom. In California, parents were shocked when they received a flyer promoting a Halloween bash that was sent out by the Encinitas Union School District. While Halloween parties are not uncommon this time of year, the flyer promoted “Queerfest,” a family event for both parents and children that included trick or treating, games, and a family-friendly drag show.

Presented by both a gay bar and a center for gender reassignment surgery, the Queerfest event was shared by the school district after being uploaded to an app called Peachjar. The app allows groups in the community to submit town events in hopes the local schools will promote the occasion. While some get denied, the district believed Queerfest was appropriate for the whole family. Although shared by the district, the flyer included a message reading, “distribution of this flier does not imply endorsement by the Encinitas Union School District, its schools, or staff and is distributed in compliance with federal and state law.”

Outraged by the flyer, Justin Ried, who claimed he supported representation, admitted that there had to be some stipulations. “We certainly want to be an inclusive community and support groups of all kinds, but the question is, where do we draw the line? At what point do we think, well, maybe drag shows shouldn’t be promoted to our kindergarten through 6th families is that something that would be suitable for somebody who is five to ten years old, maybe not. We should know how those decisions are being arrived at.”

Another parent of two children, Carrie Boller, sent a more direct message, stating, “Our message is very clear. We don’t want strip shows, we don’t want drag shows, and definitely not sent out inviting the parents and kids in our district.”

After parents protested outside the office of the school district, the board decided to stop promoting the event. The district said in a statement that “it remains steadfast in our commitment to be an inclusive and supportive district for all students regardless of race, ethnicity, linguistic background, economic class, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and physical and cognitive ability.”

Online users shared their thoughts, suggesting, “they are pushing this trash HARD. It’s gone quickly from grooming to castration and mutilation. They are trying to create a generation of these kids who will ultimately be genderless with severe mental problems for their entire life. I can’t believe this is happening in any civilized nation, yet alone the US.”
