VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL – An 18-year-old suspect was arrested earlier in September by Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies after officials say the teen shot at a woman’s vehicle following some kind of a road rage incident. While no one was reportedly injured in the shooting, the teen suspect is now facing a litany of charges that can land him behind bars for several years.

On September 15th, at approximately 6:00 a.m., officials say 18-year-old Bryan Holmes was erratically driving southbound on SR 415 with no headlights on, creating severe safety issues resulting in one vehicle having to drive onto the shoulder of the road to avoid Holmes’ vehicle.

Authorities say that as the one vehicle pulled onto the shoulder of the road, Holmes attempted to drive between that vehicle and the female victim’s vehicle. Officials say that Holmes continued to drive alongside the female victim’s vehicle for several minutes before firing off seven shots at her vehicle.

Luckily, the woman wasn’t injured in the shooting, and authorities obtained Holmes’ license plate number, which led them to a residence located off Arcadia Street in Deltona approximately 30 minutes after the originating incident.

By the time deputies arrived at the suspect’s home, bodycam footage shows that Holmes was already attempting to pull out of his driveway, with deputies ordering him to stop the vehicle.

Holmes wound up stopping the vehicle and opened up his passenger side door, with one deputy repeatedly telling Holmes to exit and step away from the vehicle. The suspect, once on his feet, was hesitating when being ordered to step away from the car – at times glancing back into the vehicle amid repeated orders from the deputy.

When the suspect’s right hand briefly dropped down back toward the vehicle’s interior, the deputy quickly grabbed Holmes – gaining control of both of his arms – and pulled him away from the vehicle.

After Holmes was placed into cuffs, the deputy yelled at the suspect, “You freaking stupid? Huh? Are you a freaking idiot?” It would become apparent as to why the deputy scolded Holmes in that moment, as bodycam footage shows a gun that was on the ground right by the driver’s side door of the suspect’s vehicle, with the deputy telling a fellow officer, “He pulled a gun out as we were trying to get him to step out of the car.”

When deputies brought Holmes down to the station for questioning, he allegedly told investigators that the victim had cut him off in traffic and hit his rear bumper and that he was only trying to shoot out the woman’s tires when firing at the victim.

The suspect has since been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a concealed weapon used in the commission of a felony by a person under 24. Holmes was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail, with his bail being set at $40,000.
