According to a recent poll, it seems that a majority of Democrat voters aren’t intent on “Ridin’ with Biden” in 2024, as over 50% of respondents to this latest poll claimed they’d rather have someone else as the 2024 Democratic nominee.

In an ABC News/Washington Post poll conducted ahead of the November midterms, 56% of registered voters who identified as being Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents want the Democratic party to pick someone other than Biden as the nominee for 2024.

As for the same voter demographic from the poll, only 35% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents favored Biden as being the party nominee.

This news of Biden losing support from his own base regarding a potential 2024 run is hardly surprising, especially when one considers the ongoing speculation questioning whether Biden is mentally fit to even hold the White House next time around (and even whether he’s currently fit to hold office).

Furthermore, Biden’s approval ratings are well below the 50% marker; that tanking level of approval can be attributed to the numerous issues surrounding his administration like inflation, high gas prices, still-lingering negative sentiments over the Afghanistan withdrawal, the border crisis, and his inflammatory and divisive rhetoric aimed at Republicans.

The poll also found that 74% of all respondents, Democrats, and Republicans alike, identified the economy as being in “bad shape,” with the poll further finding Republicans lead Democrats by 16 points in being able to tackle the economic issues.

Furthermore, as it relates to the upcoming midterms, Democrats who are banking on the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade as being their ace in the hole for Congressional elections may be overestimating the value of that issue. As ABC News noted, “84% call the economy a top issue in their vote for Congress, and 76% say the same about inflation. Many fewer, 62%, call abortion a top issue.”

However, Democrats are still harboring a 20-point lead against Republicans with respect to addressing abortion on a national level.

Republicans also carry a 14-point lead in regard to being able to handle crime within the country, where 69% of respondents cited crime as being a “highly important” issue – but not a top one.

In areas like education and schools, Democrats only carry a six-point lead, whereas in immigration, both Republicans and Democrats are essentially tied.

Overall, the rank importance of issues that voters are considering with the upcoming midterms are as follows:

  1. The economy
  2. Inflation
  3. Abortion
  4. Climate change
  5. Crime
  6. Education
  7. Immigration

Another interesting aspect revealed in this ABC News/Washington Post poll was that Republicans and Republican-leaning independents are a bit divided on whether Trump should be the Republican nominee for 2024, with 47% in favor of Trump being on the R-ticket and 46% being opposed to it.

As for expected voter turnout for the upcoming midterm elections, reportedly 72% of all registered voter respondents stated that they’re certain to vote in their respective districts, with 66% claiming this midterm election cycle is more important to them than previous ones.
