NEW YORK CITY, NY – A chaotic scene was captured on camera earlier in September in New York City’s Upper East Side when a suspect in a black Mercedes intentionally crashed into an SUV and robbed the victim at gunpoint.

Authorities say the incident occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. on September 3rd along the intersection of 91st Street and 2nd Avenue. Video captured during the incident shows the suspect in the Mercedes pursuing the 55-year-old victim driving the SUV, with the driver of the Mercedes then quickly speeding up to pull up to the side of the SUV and proceed to sideswipe the vehicle.

After sideswiping the vehicle, the suspect uses their Mercedes to push the SUV into a parked car shortly before the victim jumps the curb on the sidewalk in an effort to flee the suspect’s vehicle.

Bystanders on the sidewalk quickly create distance between themselves and the vehicles before the suspect is able to pin the SUV, with a passenger from the Mercedes quickly exiting the vehicle and holding up the victim at gunpoint.

As seen on the video, the armed assailant retrieves what appears to be a black bag from the victim and then hops back into the passenger side door of the Mercedes, with the suspects fleeing the scene.

Police say no one was harmed during the incident, with investigators additionally noting there’s reason to believe the suspect and the victim are familiar with each other. The name of the victim has not been released by authorities, nor have police confirmed whether they’d identified any potential suspects in the case.

Zeek Arkham, the host of the “Reasonable Suspicion” podcast, shared the footage of the incident on Twitter with a caption that read, “While I’m waiting for GTA 6 to come out, at least I can feel good that I live in a real-life Grand Theft Auto simulation. If NYC doesn’t change pace, the city is going to be lost. Same with every other soft-on-crime, Liberal policies, city out there.”

Others responding to the video poked fun at New York City’s rather strict gun laws, with one commenter writing, “See the problem is the missing gun free zone sign. This wouldn’t have happened had the proper signage been in place.”

Some commenters online were aghast at the brazenness of the offense due to it occurring in broad daylight amid a busy intersection, with one person mentioning, “I remember a time when most criminal activity occurred after dark. 2020 emboldened everyone. Now the shit goes down whenever, wherever.”

While crime like this is playing out in New York City, mainstream media outlets like Bloomberg are carrying water for pro-criminal activists who are decrying that arrests for low-level offenses are slightly climbing under Mayor Eric Adams’ administration and clamoring about “a new era of mass incarceration.”
