On September 25th, Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake sat down for an interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, where the aspiring governor delved into the ongoing issues impacting Arizona with respect to the border crisis.

After sharing a clip of Joe Biden delivering a confusing non-answer regarding the ongoing border crisis, Bartiromo delved into the current numbers with respect to illegal immigration amid the current fiscal year.

“We don’t know what he was saying. That was President Biden on a word salad attempting to defend this wide-open border, at the southern border, as more than 2 million migrants have crossed illegally this fiscal year. In numbers just released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, over 200,000 people were apprehended at the border just in the last month with an untold more that got away.”

Lake commented on the estimated number of “gotaways,” which pertain to illegal immigrants who crossed into the United States either undetected or were able to escape apprehension after being spotted by Border Patrol, noting that this demographic of illegal aliens are by far the most concerning.

“We are very concerned about the ‘gotaway’ numbers, a million have come since Joe Biden took office, and these are the most dangerous ones. We don’t know what their background is: they could be terrorists, they could be murderous, and they’re most likely hardcore criminals.”

The Republican gubernatorial candidate further explained the impact illegal aliens have been having on border communities within Arizona, mentioning the roughly 350 victims of crime in Cochise County over the past six months who were victimized by illegal immigrants.

“I was just talking to the sheriff of Cochise County, Mark Dannels, and he told me 16,000 are coming through a month in that sector – the Tucson Sector. Just last week, there were…two of his vehicles damaged by smugglers who crashed into them trying to get away. And 350 people in Cochise County have been the victims of people passing in illegally – criminals coming in illegally. There have been 350 victims of crime in Cochise County in six months alone. So it is impacting Arizonans every single day.”

When asked by Bartiromo what Lake would do if elected to office, Lake firmly assured that on her first day as governor, she’d declare the crisis at the southern border as being an “invasion” and get “troops on  the ground” to assist with local law enforcement stationed along the U.S./Mexico border.

“Well, first and foremost, that border – day one – we’re going to issue a declaration of invasion, call it what it is. And we’re going to get troops on the ground and stop people from coming over. Give reinforcements to our border sheriffs and stop this madness. We’ve just had the largest drug bust in the history of drug busts in Phoenix, Arizona, this week, a million fentanyl pills. This is a poisoning of America. I don’t even call them drug overdoses because…one half of a pill can kill you.”
