SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – On September 13th, a former pediatric nurse who was fired from her position at Rady Children’s Hospital earlier in 2022 over COVID shots mandates delivered an emotional address before the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, singling out Supervisor Nathan Fletcher for pushing the jab mandates that were adopted at establishments like her former employer’s.

Back in October of 2021, Tawny Buettner saw herself being removed from bedside duties at the children’s hospital over her not adhering to the COVID shot mandate that went into effect in San Diego County that impacted healthcare workers.

At the time, various other hospitals were allowing nurses to remain in their positions and were accepting religious and other exemptions to the shot – but Rady Children’s Hospital wasn’t doing so at the time. According to the former pediatric nurse, Rady Children’s Hospital asserted that unjabbed nurses posed a risk – yet the hospital wasn’t administering COVID tests to people who’d taken the jab.

Later on, Rady Children’s Hospital allowed nurses to claim exemptions to COVID booster shots while also allowing those healthcare workers to remain working bedside. As for people like Buettner, who dodged the first COVID shots, a similar gratuity wasn’t extended.

Buettner had been on unpaid leave for approximately six months before she was officially terminated from her position in March of 2022. When speaking before the San Diego County Board of Supervisors on September 13th, Buettner squarely blamed Supervisor Fletcher for fostering these pointless and radical pandemic responses that led to her losing her career.

“My name is Tawny Buettner, I came before you guys a year ago. I’m a nurse, or at least I was at Rady Children’s in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Until Nathan and his ‘misinformation pandemic’ caused me to lose my job.

“I took care of those children who came in with myocarditis after the vaccine. And I talked to the doctors because I was a charge nurse saying, ‘Why aren’t we reporting these to VAERS? Who is going to report these to VAERS?’ It was an unspoken thing that we were not allowed to talk about openly on the unit.”

Buettner spoke of the lifesaving work she performed during her time in healthcare, bemoaning how, near the end of her time at the hospital, she saw the likes of friends and colleagues mocking her for avoiding the COVID shot.

“I’ve worked for 13 years in this community, taking care of some of the sickest patients. The day before I was taken away from my position, I was actively giving compressions to a child, pushing…pushing calcium into his veins to keep him alive. And we did. And he went home. And yet I was ridiculed by those who were supposed to be my colleagues and my friends.

“I am the face of your ‘misinformation campaign,’ Nathan. I am the one who lost my career in Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU care. I took care of children who had COVID. I never got COVID at the hospital. I tested twice a week. I wore my PPE because I loved my job, and I love this community.”
