LAKE ODESSA, MI – An elderly woman who was canvassing to get information out regarding a proposal to be voted on during the November 8 election was shot last weekend after a “heated conversation.”
Police say that an 83-year-old unidentified woman was canvassing and giving out pamphlets against Proposal 3 with the group Right to Life of Michigan. During her route in the Lake Odessa area, she came to a house and had a “heated” discussion with the residents. An uninvolved party apparently took aim at the woman as she turned to leave the residence, striking her in the back/shoulder area.
Michigan’s Proposal 3 guarantees essentially unregulated and unlimited abortion access. According to the Michigan Catholic Conference, “Proposal 3 goes far beyond just keeping abortion legal or reinstating the now overturned Roe v. Wade decision. It would allow abortions to be performed by anyone, at any point in pregnancy, and for any reason. It would throw away state laws regulating quality, safety, and inspections for abortion clinics. It would remove parental consent requirement for teens seeking abortions, and also teens seeking gender reassignment surgeries.”
Right to Life of Michigan said in a statement, “[The] victim said that she was shot in the back/shoulder while leaving a residence during a heated conversation, and that the man who shot her was not a part of her conversation. The victim does not know the identity or motive of her shooter. The victim is still recovering from her gunshot wound and wishes to remain anonymous while the criminal investigation proceeds.”
An official with Right to Life of Michigan, Chris Gast, told Fox News Digital, “We’re glad the victim is recovering, and our volunteers will continue knocking doors on Proposal 3.”
Proposal 3 was introduced by Reproductive Freedom for All, backed by Planned Parenthood and the ACLU. According to SupportMIWomenandChildren.org, “This poorly-worded amendment would repeal dozens of state laws, including our state’s ban on tax-funded abortions, the partial-birth abortion ban, and fundamentally alter the parent-child relationship by preventing parents from having input on their children’s health.”
A similar situation unfolded last month in Kansas City, where a pro-abortion woman attacked and assaulted a teenager who was out canvassing for life. The teenager, 18-year-old Grace Hartsock, was out with Student for Life Action in the Leewood area knocking on doors to encourage people to vote for the passing of HCR 5003, the Kansas Value Them Both Amendment, which essentially would make the State Constitution neutral when it comes to abortion so that individual voters can set the law on the matter.
Hartsock came to one door, the door of the adult female suspect, and said asked if she could count on the resident’s vote in favor of the amendment.
“No, I’m sorry I don’t think you want to talk to us,” the resident said.
“Hartsock recounted that as she politely thanked her for her time and began to leave the property,” the Students For Life Action blog read, “a female voice began yelling and cursing from inside the home. Hartsock said that she stopped momentarily to turn around to face the voice yelling expletives and heard her say, ‘Don’t apologize to her, mom.’ As Hartsock was turning, the yelling woman ran out the front door and began chasing her.”
The blog post continues, saying that the woman “shoved Hartsock in the chest with both hands and began hitting her in the head with closed fists. Hartsock attempted to protect herself and leave while the resident’s mother told her daughter to stop the violence.”
The woman apparently threw a piece of food at Hartsock as she fled down the driveway, and the woman followed Hartsock shouting and cursing at her, saying things like, “I hope you get raped,” and “I hope you get run over by a car.”
