CHICAGO, IL – Mayor Lori Lightfoot had a lot to say on Monday regarding Texas Governor Greg Abbott and the busses full of illegal immigrants he’s sending to “sanctuary cities,” including her city of Chicago. Governor Abbott has said he will continue to do so until the southern border is secured, hoping that the move will help the rest of the country to understand the extreme hardships all the extra people are causing Texas, who is expected to care for them financially and physically despite their illegal status.

Last week, Abbott sent several buses to Chicago and sent two more over the weekend. Lightfoot claimed that she “welcomes” the migrants but said she condemns Abbott for how he’s doing it. She also said he’s using the immigrants as “human pawns.”

“My frustration comes from the actions of the governor of Texas,” Lightfoot, a Democrat, said. “There could be a level of coordination and cooperation, but he chooses to do none of those things. Instead, he chooses to send human beings across the country to an uncertain destination. That’s unacceptable.”

It’s unclear what Lightfoot means by “coordination and cooperation.” She went on to say of Abbott, “He is manufacturing a human crisis, and it makes no sense to me.”

The human crisis, of course, comes at the hands of the Biden administration, which refuses to secure the southern border of the United States, causing a records breaking number of illegal immigrants to be allowed into the country despite a major economic recession and inflation that is hurting American citizens enough without their presence. “Mayor Lightfoot is attacking Texas instead of addressing the real cause of the border crisis: Joe Biden,” Abbott said in a tweet. “His inaction at our border is putting the lives of Texans at risk & is overwhelming our communities. Texas is doing Biden’s job to secure the border.”

Lightfoot announced a donations website being set up to raise the funds and goods to use for the illegals. “We are a welcoming city,” she said. “We are always going to step up and do the right thing to make sure that migrants coming into our city are well received, that they’re supported.”

“We have people coming as families, young children with their first taste of democracy and freedom in many instances, and we need to make sure that the memory that they have of Chicago and of the United States is favorable. Regardless of where their life journey takes them, I want them to feel like in this moment that they came to this city, and we wrapped our arms around them, loved them, and supported them.”

Chicago Alderman Raymond Lope, who is running to oust the Democrat mayor, said in a tweet, “And the victims of Chicago gang violence get…[crickets].”
