Following the FBI raid carried out on Mar-a-Lago that was allegedly inspired by White House documents sought by the National Archives believed to have been inappropriately stored there, Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz called the raid purely “performative.”

However, Rep. Gaetz also highlighted that this wouldn’t serve as the “first time” Trump was targeted by the overzealous Justice Department.

While speaking with Newsmax host Rob Schmitt, Rep. Gaetz brought up the “Russia hoax” and how it served as the first instance where the Justice Department and FBI were weaponized against the former president.

“The reality is if the FBI and the DOJ are cheating to try to ensnare President Trump in criminality, it won’t even be the first time they’ve done it. And we caught them red-handed last time during the Russia hoax, where they were abusing the law enforcement and national security process to launder political dirt into the ether of criminal investigations.”

The Florida congressman then segued over to the optics of this raid carried out on August 8th, emphasizing how dozens of armed agents were sent over to Mar-a-Lago for a quest to reportedly retrieve White House documents that could’ve easily been obtained via a simple subpoena.

“I mean, this was a highly performative raid…you have the entire circle around President Trump’s great American flag – full of black SUVs. The FBI even rented a Ryder truck so they could bring in 30 armed agents to Mar-a-Lago of all places. If they wanted documents, they could’ve sent a subpoena, but they were trying to send a message. Because they know they’ve got an inflation bill that really isn’t an inflation bill – the American people don’t support [it] – and so they’re trying to scare the country about MAGA because they know they’re doomed in the upcoming midterms.”

Days before the raid even occurred, Rep. Gaetz was alongside Steve Bannon at CPAC in Dallas, Texas, making mention of how the Justice Department and the FBI are tainted by “partisan politics to their very core” and that come the outcome of the midterms, Republicans are going to clean house in those agencies.

“There’s a lot of swamp left to be drained at the Department of Justice and at the FBI. We, right now, have a tidal wave of whistleblowers coming forward, and they all tell the same story: that those agencies are infected by politics – partisan politics to their very core. And so we’re going to follow up those whistleblower investigations, and I think that there’s going to be even more folks coming forward to explain how is there anything about Hunter Biden, ‘Oh, that gets degraded, it’s not important.’ But if there’s anything regarding anybody who has ever been around President Trump, they try to go after us like there’s no tomorrow. That’s gonna change.”
