Los Angeles Supports Pro-Crime D.A. Gascon

The campaign to recall George Gascon as Los Angeles District Attorney has stalled, as recall proponents supposedly did not submit enough signatures to get the recall on the ballot. Recall leaders wonder about the fairness of the count.

FNC: “Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón came under fire on Twitter after tweeting Monday that the recall effort against him was an “attempted political power grab.”

The controversial prosecutor, who holds a record of criticism for his allegedly soft-on-crime policies that have created a safe haven for criminals in Los Angeles County, survived Monday’s recall bid after the campaign against him failed to gather enough signatures.”

Gascon said, “Grateful to move forward from this attempted political power grab-rest assured LA County, the work hasn’t stopped. My primary focus has been & will always be keeping us safe & creating a more equitable justice system for all. I remain strongly committed to that work & to you,” he wrote. But others disagree.

Actress Tonja Walker hit the liberal DA, saying, “The power grab comes from you and the county. Read the article. And how can anyone trust the signatures were not valid? One sentence says 9000 plus were not valid beyond reasonable doubt. Another says over 175k were invalid. How can we trust anyone?”

California assemblywoman Suzette Valladares wrote, “Spare me your failure and political spin. What’s clear is that a HUGE number of LA County residents feel unsafe and that George Gascon’s agenda puts lives at risk. Whether it’s a recall or in 2024 – George Gascón and his pro-criminal policies have to go.”

Writer Jim Breslo summed it up well.”Angelenos are notoriously apathetic. They demonstrated it again with the news that organizers were unable to collect enough signatures to place the recall of District Attorney George Gascon on the ballot in November. This despite him being incredibly unpopular: a recent poll showed he would lose a recall vote in a landslide. This does not bode well for those seeking change through what will be on the ballot, namely the LA mayor’s race.

The joke is that Angelenos are apathetic, but they do not care. They arrive late and leave early from ballgames. They do not dress up (the only place you may see a tie or dress shoes is in court or at a funeral). And they are not overly concerned with politics. This is explained by the weather. When you have perfect weather year-round (a light rain is the top story on the local news), you tend to be more content and less irritated by ancillary problems. LA is like the restaurant with a great location. It can get away with high prices and so-so food and service because the people will come regardless.

This is the second time that organizers failed to get enough signatures. After failing the first time, it was expected they would certainly manage to get enough the second time. For months now it has been assumed that the recall of Gascon would be on the November ballot. The crime problem has only gotten worse.” It will get even worse now that criminals know their pet D.A. isn’t going anywhere.
