It’s not quite a quarter to three. But, the theme is close enough. I’m gonna pour some Woodford. Maybe smoke a Padron 1964. And listen to Frank…

After over 2700 articles, this is my last op-ed for LifeZette. I’ll do some news analysis pieces until Thursday. Then kaput. My last hurrah. Here, anyway.

If you want to read my stuff in other publications you can still do it on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and GETTR. But here, it’s last call.

The good folks at this website come to mind. The people at LifeZette are excellent. Due to budgetary constraints and an ideological parting of ways circumstances dictate I move on. However, I’m grateful for the opportunity LZ gave me. If there’s anything I can leave you guys, the readers, with, it’s these parting thoughts…

Think for yourself. Read this publication and others. Focus on the incontrovertible facts. Get a variety of views within reason and then make up your own mind. Do not fall victim to mobthink, emotion, confirmation bias, or cult of personality. America is a credal nation. Ideas and reason are supposed to matter above populist apotheosis.

One of those ideas is the free market. It has been under assault for close to two centuries. But it has brought more security and prosperity than any other idea in the history of man. Fight like hell for it.

However, a free market cannot survive if it is hindered to injury by a statist class. That is the situation in America today. A socialist led Democrat Party wants to replace economic freedom with government control. We’ve seen it very recently in the Orwellian named Inflation Reduction Act and in the student loan giveaway. The left seeks to bankrupt Americans so to put our essential needs in the hands of omnipresent government. The left wants to deploy that power to use you for their benefit. That modern leviathan state operating by worst impulse must be politically resisted. Your future depends on it.

Upstream from all of that is the culture. Everything starts there. When our media, academic halls, entertainment, and various leading cultural institutions are in the hands of those who loathe this nation, and they are, there is nothing more important than taking back what is ours, what our Founders bequeathed us. Conservatives cannot just whine and then abandon the culture to the left. We must start new ventures, build new schools, write new plays and books, change colleges, and restore Hollywood to a semblance of traditional values. This must be done by persuasion and capital. That is our most vital mission.

I think in a relatively short space of time momentous events will come upon America that will make or break the country as we know it. Yeats had it right for today when he said over a century ago, “Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity.”

Who do you think would win the Presidency?

Are we doomed? No. But it’s going to be a hard fight to emerge with an America we can still call the land of the free. See you on the front lines.
