NEW YORK CITY, NY – A 59-year-old man seated in his walker was killed this week when a woman involved in a physical altercation with another woman inside of a deli in Queens attempted to run over the other combatant with her vehicle, but instead fatally struck the innocent bystander nearby.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. on August 27th at the Rohan Deli on Beach 20th Street, where 59-year-old Milton Storch just so happened to have been seated on his walker right outside of the deli.
As Storch was seated outside, reportedly two women had entered the deli and eventually gotten into some kind of a heated argument that turned physical, with store and street-side surveillance footage showing the two female combatants going at it inside and outside of the establishment.
At one point in the footage, the female combatant in the black top pursued the woman in the green top and delivered a series of blows to her head and face while the woman in green struggled to make her way inside of her Honda parked outside of the deli.
The woman in the green top was eventually able to get into the driver’s side seat of the parked vehicle, but then the woman in black reengaged and tried to physically pull the woman out of the car.
After the unsuccessful attempt to forcibly extricate the woman from he car, the driver of the Honda backed up and jumped the curb of the sidewalk whilst the woman in the black top was still nearby.
Based upon the surveillance video, it appears as though the driver tried to mow down the woman in the black top when punching the gas while on the sidewalk – but instead, wound up running down Storch. An unnamed 37-year-old man was also struck as the suspect backed up their vehicle after striking Storch.
Storch was reportedly rushed over to St. John’s Hospital, having suffered critical injuries to his head. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
The name of the 27-year-old suspect behind the wheel has not been released by authorities, with police noting that she is still at large after she reportedly abandoning her vehicle in an undisclosed location and fleeing on foot.
Jose Rodriguez, Storch’s roommate, was initially oblivious to Storch’s passing, telling New York Daily News, “I thought he was at a friend’s house. I got up in the night and saw the room door open, and I was like, ‘Why is he not here?’ He hangs out during the day, but nighttime he comes home because he can’t see that well during the night.”
The deli where Storch was killed was reportedly mere blocks away from where he lived with Rodriguez, with his roommate remarking when he “found out what happened, then that’s when I stood frozen.”
Tatiyana Temple, who lives near the deli, noted that Storch would frequent the establishment often, saying, “He’s a nice pleasant guy, respectful. He’s always outside in the front minding his business. I just seen him two days before that happened. I always greet him every time I see him.”
