LOS ANGELES, CA – Earlier in August, a Good Samaritan thwarted a robbery in the Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, tackling a vagrant who assaulted and robbed an elderly victim in broad daylight.

The incident occurred on August 1st outside of what appears to be a local eatery near the intersection of La Brea and Hollywood. Surveillance footage showcased the incident where the unnamed suspect approached the elderly victim as he was seated, punching the victim and nonchalantly walking off with his phone and wallet.

At this point, a local business owner named Tim Ratcliff chased down the suspect and took him to the ground. While speaking to the local Fox News outlet, Ratcliff admitted that his adrenaline was pumping pretty hard when detaining the suspect.

“I was not gonna lie, the adrenaline was a lot at that point, and afterwards it was exhausting it felt like I had worked out the next day for quite a bit.”

Ratcliff reportedly held the suspect down for approximately nine minutes while waiting for authorities, with the suspect attempting to bite him all the while. Nearby witnesses, as well as Ratcliff’s girlfriend, also aided in keeping the suspect under control until police arrived.

Ironically on the same day this incident occurred, the Los Angeles City Council approved additional shifts for Los Angeles Police Department officers in the Hollywood area due to increases in crime demanding the attention of patrol units.

Ratcliff mentioned this matter, stating he’d conversed with one of the responding officers about the approval of more patrol shifts in the Hollywood area in light of the present public safety issues.

“Even one of the officers and I talked about it…they’re tired of it…a lot of people like myself are tired of this type of thing happening…we’re seeing more and more people just not putting up with it and taking it into their own hands…which I’m glad for…and I’d happily do it again.”

On August 17th, Ratcliff also appeared on “Fox & Friends First,” telling show host Carley Shimkus that the crime that played out right before him was jarring considering Hollywood wasn’t always like this.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was honestly a shock to see anything like this happening because there’s never been any kind of violence before.”

The Good Samaritan noted that the victim in the incident is doing better, but had suffered a cracked rib after falling on the curb following the unexpected attack launched by the vagrant.

Ratcliff claimed that the suspect pleaded with him to let him go while he was being held down and waiting for police, however, Ratcliff stated he was not in the mood to show any kind of leniency to someone who’d just launched an unprovoked attack on an elderly victim.

“I told him, you crossed the line this time, and you’ve got to wait for the police and deal with this the right way.”
