Ghislaine Maxwell, the alleged former madam of the late billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, has been accused of owing a Colorado law firm nearly $900,000 in a new lawsuit.
The New York Post reported that the firm Haddon, Morgan, and Foreman, PC, which is based in Denver, has filed a lawsuit against Maxwell to try and recover $878,302 in unpaid legal bills for work it did defending the 60-year-old disgraced British socialite against civil lawsuits and in her criminal case in New York.

The suit also names Maxwell’s brother, Kevin Maxwell, and husband, Scott Borgerson, for not making good on promises to pay the money and attempting to shield her assets from being used to satisfy the debt.
The firm alleges in the suit that it was worried about “Ms. Maxwell’s willingness and ability to meet her financial obligations” from very early on in the case.
The firm added that it notified Kevin, who was put in charge of paying the lawyers by his sister, on August 11, 2020, that it “could no longer represent” her. Kevin responded by saying that he would personally ensure that there was always $100,000 in the firm’s trust while the case was ongoing. However, the retainer funds ran out in November of that year, and she she owed $141,160 by January of 2021.
Then, as Maxwell’s sex-trafficking trial in Manhattan federal court approached in December of 2021, the firm said that it needed a $1 million retainer payment before it was set to begin. While Kevin made occasional payments, the firm alleges that he failed to restore the retainer to $100,000 and never paid the money that was owed.
Kevin attempted to place the blame for these delays on Borgerson, claiming that he “controlled Ms. Maxwell’s money and was responsible for delaying payments to the firm.”
The suit claims that it received only $143,500 in January and that the firm is still owed $878,302.
“Mr. Maxwell breached the agreement by failing to pay for services and advanced costs on behalf of Ms. Maxwell,” the firm claimed in the lawsuit.
In its suit, the firm accuses Kevin of lying about timing of payments and accuses Borgerson of not releasing Maxwell’s money to pay the firm.
Maxwell is currently in a Florida prison after being sentenced to twenty years for charges related to her recruiting young girls for sex with Epstein and sometimes participating in the abuse herself. Epstein allegedly killed himself in August of 2019 while in prison awaiting trial on sex crime charges of his own.
“Today’s sentence holds Ghislaine Maxwell accountable for perpetrating heinous crimes against children,” U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams said in a statement after her sentence was handed down. “This sentence sends a strong message that no one is above the law, and it is never too late for justice.”
Maxwell’s lawyer Bobbi Sternheim responded by saying that Maxwell would appeal and that her client had been subjected to daily “vilification and mistreatment” and “sentenced to an extremely long term.”
The judge, however, was not having any of it, saying that she “is not being punished in place of Epstein” and that she both “participated in a horrific scheme” and facilitated “sexual abuse by and with Jeffrey Epstein.”
Maxwell is not set to be freed until 2037.
