WASHINGTON, DC – According to a report from the National File, the day following the FBI raid conducted at Mar-a-Lago, Republican Rep. Scott Perry had his personal cellphone unexpectedly seized by FBI agents while traveling with his family.

On August 9th, Rep. Perry stated that he was approached by three FBI agents while traveling with his family, with said agents demanding that he hand over his personal cellphone.

In a statement released to Fox News, Rep. Perry noted that he was “not surprised” that the Justice Department would result to seizing the personal cellphone “of a sitting Member of Congress,” but additionally decried the manner in which the situation played out.

“This morning, while traveling with my family, 3 FBI agents visited me and seized my cell phone. They made no attempt to contact my lawyer, who would have made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was their wish. I’m outraged — though not surprised — that the FBI under the direction of Merrick Garland’s DOJ, would seize the phone of a sitting Member of Congress.”

Rep. Perry also mentioned in his statement that the contents of his device – consisting of personal conversations between friends, family, and constituents – are not the business of the government.

“My phone contains info about my legislative and political activities, and personal/private discussions with my wife, family, constituents, and friends. None of this is the government’s business.”

The fact that said device was seized from the congressman one day after Mar-a-Lago was raided is hard to ignore, with Rep. Perry highlighting the similarities between the two instances when adding, “as with President Trump last night, DOJ chose this unnecessary and aggressive action instead of simply contacting my attorneys.”

Rep. Perry referred to the actions taken by the FBI as of late as being indicative of “banana republic tactics,” claiming that said tactics “should concern every citizen – especially considering the decision before Congress this week to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to further persecute law-abiding citizens.”

Unsurprisingly, Rep. Perry just so happens to be one of the many figures that have been targeted by the January 6 committee, with Rep. Liz Cheney having lobbed accusations this past June that Rep. Perry sought a pardon in connection to the Capitol incident.

The fervor aimed at Rep. Perry via the January 6 committee stems predominantly from him being among Trump’s inner circle who had doubts over the legitimacy of the 2020 election, a skeptical position that is hardly criminal in any sense but the House committee has ardently pushed to be observed as an almost treasonous act.

Officials have yet to publicly announce what they’re in search of regarding Rep. Perry’s personal cellphone, but the seizure of the device could very well be linked to the ongoing investigation surrounding January 6th.
