A lot of us had fathers and some have grandfathers who fought in WWII. Many of those vets are no longer with us and the number gets lower by the day.
But two of them, highly decorated veterans, wonder what happened to the country they defended. Yup, we’ve made a lot of progress in a lot of areas. But what have we lost along the way? Part of that may be the simple patriotism that motivated these men and many others. We need to regain it before it’s too late.
Fox: “Much of what American soldiers fought for in World War II has ‘gone down the drain,’ according to U.S. Marine Carl Spurlin Dekel, who celebrated his 100th birthday last week.
Dekel says serving his country in WWII was the most important thing he ever did, according to Fox 13. The veteran and Silver Star holder says he wouldn’t hesitate to put his life on the line again, but regrets that the U.S. has slipped away from what he remembers.”
“People don’t realize what they have,” Dekel told the outlet. “The things we did and the things we fought for and the boys that died for it, it’s all gone down the drain.
“We haven’t got the country we had when I was raised, not at all,” he says. “Nobody will have the fun I had. Nobody will have the opportunity I had. It’s just not the same and that’s not what our boys, that’s not what they died for.”
In related news, the oldest recipient of the Medal of Honor died last week as well. “Friends and family of Woody Williams knew him as a West Virginia farmer’s son and the youngest of 11 children who dutifully supported his family after his father died,” they wrote in a statement through the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. “Fellow Marines knew him as the corporal who volunteered for a mission on Iwo Jima to clear a lane through enemy pillboxes that were destroying American tanks.
We look back at the life of Marine Cpl. Williams, a hero at the Battle of Iwo Jima, who died this week at 98, and whose service to his country, and his gallantry, did not end at the close of the Second World War.

“Veterans in West Virginia knew him as their advocate through his work as a Veterans Service Representative. Gold Star families knew Woody through his work raising money for scholarships and other programs through the Woody Williams Foundation,” they continued. “We, his fellow Medal of Honor Recipients, knew him as our friend and one of our heroes. We will miss him greatly.”
Williams himself bemoaned the current lack of patriotic spirit. “I’ve been at this probably 25 to 30 times, but I believe today we had more honor wreaths than we’ve ever had before, and that’s encouraging,” Williams told WSAZ during an event. “It gives me encouragement that we’re coming back and that we will again be that United States of America that had so much patriotism and love of country.”

I want to stand tall, at attention and salute these 2 great men for what they did for our country. I also want to include all military personnel who served or are serving with the same past tradition of honor, respect and loyalty to our country. Semper Fi.
Agreed Yes good call
America will never be what it once was until and unless we put God back in first place where He belongs. That means anything and everything that’s against God will have to go and that includes any and all liberals.
I wish I could have met these 2 gentlemen. My father, 2 uncles, My father-in-Love all were in WWII. My one uncle was a POW of the Germans. My husband and I were in the Service I in the Navy and he was in the Coast Guard. We had 3 children and both my boys wanted to go into service but my oldest had eye problems and my youngest had some brain damage when he was a baby.
As a child of the 50’s born in ’49 and a V.N vet I can tell these gentlemen where Patriotism went and how we came to the point where it is hard to find.
Patriotism can still be found in many small towns around America; even among many of our youth, but the patriotic youth are becoming outnumbered by the liberal and the only way I see us winning most back is to show them the freedoms they are about to lose.
Do they love races? They better beware of the EPA crowd! Same goes for those who enjoy back country 4 wheeling’ mud bogging; boating; etc.
Do they enjoy hunting? Beware the anti-gunners!!
Even those whose only reason for living is to “party” will lose that freedom when we can no longer peacefully assemble, and they will lose their right to speak out against losing that freedom when the 1st. Amend. is taken away!
How did it get to this point? Far too many Americans from the past 3 generations have gotten so caught up in their own pleasures that they weren’t watching when the liberal dems moved to accept a Marxist agenda. We saw a real decline in voter participation up until the Obama election, and guess who was the most active in promoting that?
The liberal schools systems and the teachers’ unions have also been busy indoctrinating and rejecting law and order.
And while we are on the topic of unions; how many unions are you familiar with who support conservatives in elections? And those unions hold much sway over their members!
So the real question comes down to…how do we win back the America that produces freedom and true happiness? By becoming active in “fighting the good fight”. We must SPEAK OUT; denouncing the evils in society and explaining why it is evil.
I fully agree with they say. I see the lack of respect for our flag, country and even each other on a daily basis. I, too, would not hestitate one bit if I were recalled to serve again. To all those who served or are serving honorably, I salute you and say THANK YOU.
