Protests over the Supreme Court ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade continue to take place all over the country as both Democrats and pro-choice activists demand that the right to abortion becomes a protected law. With many taking to social media to share their anger and call for the Supreme Court to be abolished, actress Bette Midler didn’t necessarily target the entire court, but just one Justice, Clarence Thomas. Given her anger at the recent ruling, Midler decided to share a picture of his wife, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, sporting a mask of the Justice, implying that a white woman was controlling her black husband.

Although Midler, like many in Hollywood, are astonished that abortion has now become a state issue, the actress apparently didn’t take the time to ponder over her picture as many believed the image to be racist. Many users were quick to reply, writing:

  • “Let’s call this what this is: racism. And the only reason she gets away with it is because she’s a white liberal.”
  • “Sigh. The racism combined with ignorance, arrogance and a religious belief in their own virtue leaves me speechless. I’m out of words.”
  • “The left is secure and unchallenged in its deep racism regarding any independence of mind in black men and women.”

Several users shared the words Malcolm X. “The worst enemy that the Negro have is this white man that runs around here drooling at the mouth professing to love Negros and calling himself a liberal, and it is following these white liberals that has perpetuated problems that Negros have. If the Negro wasn’t taken, tricked or deceived by the white liberal, then Negros would get together and solve our own problems. I only cite these things to show you that in America, the history of the white liberal has been nothing but a series of trickery designed to make Negros think that the white liberal was going to solve our problems.”

And while Midler didn’t gain the support she was looking for, that didn’t stop her from sharing another questionable image of the supreme court being ruled by Virginia Thomas. It should be noted that overturning the Roe v. Wade ruling wasn’t accomplished by Justice Thomas alone.
