Setting the stage for the upcoming wave of red that is expected to take over D.C. in the upcoming 2022 Midterm elections, GOP Representatives congratulated the first Mexican-born woman to hold a seat in Congress. Sworn in by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Texas Republican Mayra Flores was excited not just for herself, but for what she could do for the American people who have been struggling since the Democrats took control after the 2020 Presidential election.

Recently winning a special election in Texas’s 34th District, Flores beat the Democrats so badly that there didn’t even need to be a runoff election as she gained 51% of the vote. It should also be mentioned that the district had been held by the Democrats for some time. Speaking about the new congresswoman, McCarthy stated, “Nothing’s greater than the American story, nothing is greater than Myra Flores’s story. It’s not just that she was born in Mexico. It’s not just what she was able to achieve, but think about the seat in which she won. It is a seat that the Republican Party has not had in more than 100 years of the Rio Grande Valley.”

Giving her own statement, which can be seen in the video above, Flores explained, “I was born in Burgos, Tamaulipas, Mexico, raised with strong values to always put God and family first. My father, Saul Flores, moved us to the United States because of the promise of America, he told me. In this country, if you work hard, you can accomplish anything. My story proves he is right. But right now, our people are struggling. They are taken for granted. That ends now.”

The Republican added, “I am a proud Border Patrol wife and a mother fighting for a better future for our children. I want to inspire every child that today is working in the fields — strawberry, onions, cotton field and you name it — I want you to know that you can become a congressman, a congresswoman if you work hard.”

Although holding the seat for now, Flores will have to defend her position against Democrat Representative Vicente Gonzalez during the general election in November. Still, with her district being 85% Hispanic, the newest member of the GOP didn’t appear worried as she even criticized Vice President Kamala Harris, who was put in charge of the Southern border crisis. “She’s honestly useless. I don’t know why she’s in that position. She hasn’t been here in south Texas to see what their policies are creating, the mess that they’re creating in our country, and that their policies are hurting real people.”

What makes the win more interesting is the fact that Flores was able to flip a district that was more than just Democrat. During the 2020 election, President Biden supposedly won the district by 13 points. But not even two years later, the voters are apparently looking for a change.
