Paul Pelosi, the 82 year-old husband of the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, has officially been charged with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence causing injury. This was announced in a press conference on Thursday by the Napa County District Attorney’s Office.
“The charges filed today include Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Causing Injury and Driving With .08% Blood Alcohol Level or Higher Causing Injury,” the press release stated, according to People Magazine.
The charges stem from a May 28 car accident in which Paul was found to be driving under the influence. He was trying to cross State Route 29 in his 2021 Porsche when it was hit by a northbound 2014 Jeep. A California Highway Patrol collision report stated that there were no injuries in the accident, and the driver of the jeep was not arrested.

Upon Paul’s arrest, his blood alcohol level was found to be .082 percent.
“Based upon the extent of the injuries suffered by the victim, the District Attorney filed misdemeanor charges,” the press release continued. “This decision is consistent with how our office handles these cases with similar injuries.”
If Paul is convicted, he could face a minimum of five days in jail and five years of probation. He could also be forced to install an ignition interlock device and to complete a court-ordered DUI class, as well as pay fines and fees.
Paul will need to appear at an arraignment in Napa County Superior Court on August 3. His wife Nancy has yet to comment publicly on his arrest, only having her spokesperson say the next day, “The Speaker will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast.”
Nancy was in Rhode Island when the arrest occurred, and she gave the commencement speech at Brown University the next morning. Nancy and Paul have been married since 1963, and they have five children together. Paul is a businessman from San Francisco who owns a real estate and venture capital investment and consulting firm.
Friends of Paul’s have said that he’s known to be a womanizer, despite his long marriage to Nancy.
“He was a real man about town until she became speaker and that got shut down,” said one friend. “I’m amazed they kept it under wraps … She’s off the running the country and he’s back in San Fran. But he’s stuck with her. He could have dumped her a** for some pretty little thing. He’s a good Catholic.”
It will certainly be interesting to see how Paul’s court date plays out in August.
