Back in December, a federal jury found Ghislaine Maxwell guilty on five charges that included sex trafficking. According to the evidence, Maxwell helped her former lover Jeffrey Epstein groom and traffic at least four girls between 1994 and 2004. Not only did the girls detail the sexual encounters with Epstein, there were even accusations of some of the worlds most elite being constant visitors to his notorious island. With Maxwell scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday, she was surprisingly put on suicide watch even though her lawyer Bobbi Sternheim was adamant she wasn’t.

Releasing a letter detailing the recent events, Sternheim, who was the former lawyer to Epstein before his mysterious death, wrote that Maxwell was moved from a general prison to solitary confinement without being able to bring any items like toothpaste, soap, or her legal documents. “She was provided a ‘suicide smock’ and is given a few sheets of toilet paper on request.” He added she was put on suicide watch “without having conducted a psychological evaluation and without justification. If Ms. Maxwell remains on suicide watch, is prohibited from reviewing legal materials prior to sentencing, becomes sleep-deprived, and is denied sufficient time to meet with and confer with counsel, we will be formally moving on Monday for an adjournment.”

It should be noted that the once cellmate of Maxwell admitted to having numerous offers to kill her. Her lawyer’s suggested, “One of the female inmates in Ms. Maxwell’s housing unit told at least three other inmates that she had been offered money to murder Ms. Maxwell and that she planned to strangle her in her sleep.” The lawyers continued, “This incident reflects the brutal reality that there are numerous prison inmates who would not hesitate to kill Ms. Maxwell — whether for money, fame, or simple ‘street cred.'”

The recent move to suicide watch has caused many following the case to be concerned due to the fact that Epstein was also put on suicide watch before he supposedly killed himself. The medical examiner of Epstein’s body ruled the cause of death to be a suicide.
