A survivor of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, David Hogg has dedicated himself to supporting the Democrats’ belief that banning certain assault rifles was the right step to take to combat mass shootings. Over the last few years, Hogg has made a name for himself in D.C. as he continued to promote gun control and more restrictions on gun owners. Recently, Hogg decided to criticize Republican Senator Marco Rubio for not wanting to speak with him about the current issue. The only problem, Rubio’s team revealed that it was Hogg who canceled with them.

Jumping on Twitter to attack Rubio, Hogg wrote, “Rubio staff said I can’t meet with him or his staff because I ‘trigger’ him. I just wanna have a conversation. Please meet with me @marcorubio I just want to figure out how we can stop these things from happening. We have to end the continuous debate and find what we can agree on.”

As already mentioned, a spokesperson for Rubio reached out to reporters, admitting that both the Senator and Hogg had a meeting scheduled for Thursday around 2 p.m. But unlike Hogg, the spokesman stated that the activist canceled at the last minute. Rubio’s Chief of Staff Michael Needham added, “No one said such a thing. As for the meeting, you must be confused as we had a 2p meeting scheduled with you. However, since you are lying and clearly using this all for self-promotion, that meeting is now canceled [sic]. Also, the reporter doing a profile of you knows the meeting is real since she was emailing yesterday with our comms team about it. Don’t lie again — we have receipts.”

It wasn’t long after the truth was known that Hogg deleted his tweet and even accused his team of giving him faulty information. “Got our meetings confused in the flurry and my staff misinformed me. I apologize. We’d still love to meet with you and have an honest, respectful discussion. Deleted the tweet [because] it wasn’t true but attaching here for transparency.”

After the recent mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, Hogg has been in D.C., pushing for more gun control, and has spent a fair amount of time on Twitter promoting the agenda. “PARENTS WAKE UP this could have been your kid and it still could be. We never thought it could happen in Parkland either. Act on this before you become part of the club that nobody wants to be part of.”
