Chuck Schumer Blocks Bill For School Safety Before Going On Memorial Day Vacation

With Americans demanding action be taken to help stop gun violence and mass shootings across America, the Biden administration has used the tragedy to promote their efforts to ban certain assault rifles in the United States. President Joe Biden has claimed several times that hunters don’t need an AR-15 due to deer not wearing Kevlar vests. But while the Democrats might act like the tragedy has captured their attention, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who is a Democrat, allowed the Senate to adjourn for Memorial Day after he blocked a Republican bill focusing on school safety.

Although parents in Uvalde, Texas are dealing with the pain and grief of what happened, thanks to Schumer, the Senate is now on a week-long holiday. Giving a speech on the Senate floor, the Democrat stated, “If these negotiations do not bear any fruit, the Senate will vote on gun safety legislation when we return. But our hope, even amidst our deep skepticism, is that during this week Democrats and Republicans at long last will come to agree on something meaningful that will reduce gun violence in a real way in America.”

Schumer didn’t stop as he not only blamed the Republicans, who introduced the bill, but admitted there would be no gun control legislation. He did urge Americans to vote Democrat this coming November. Trying to capitalize off of the tragedy, his statement came just before his vacation.

Talk show host Erick Erickson reacted to the news, tweeting, “Democrats are already rejecting calls for more security and single entry points for schools (refusing to concede single points of entry with multiple exits is possible). They only want gun control, which won’t pass the Senate. That means they want the issue, not a solution.”

Jim Geraghty of National Review added, “Nobody is making Chuck Schumer do this. Gun control activists often complain that lawmakers squander momentum and public attention in the aftermath of horrifying mass shootings. But it isn’t that the GOP has a secret mind control ray that influences Congressional Democratic leaders. Schumer, Pelosi, etc. choose this.”

Even Progressive activist Kai Newkirk chimed in, writing, “Pathetic. We grovel for Republican votes to pass legislative scraps rather than fight to force a few members of our own party to use their power to pass serious legislation to keep children from being slaughtered at school. Schumer has to go.”
