During a recent appearance on Steve Bannon’s War Room, Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake was asked by Bannon whether Governor Doug Ducey is prepared for the fallout of ending Title 42.

Lake stated that she doesn’t believe anyone is ready for the fallout, further proclaiming that once Title 42 is yanked, the flood of illegal immigration will result in the “biggest invasion on our homeland since the founding of this great country.”

“I don’t think anyone’s ready for it. I mean think about the invasion as we’ve seen it so far with over two million people coming across our border, many people say that’s a low estimate. We are going to see an explosion of illegal immigrants coming across our border like we’ve never seen before. We’re going to be shocked by this.

“This is going to be the biggest invasion on our homeland since the founding of this great country. And I do not think our current governor is prepared for it. I encourage him to take my border policy, my border plan, which is called Defend Arizona, and implement it immediately.

“Because if they pull Title 42, we are going to see an onslaught of people coming across that border and I know we’re not prepared for it, the good people of Arizona are not prepared for it, and nor should we be prepared for it. We don’t deserve this. Get the Arizona National Guard down to the border, arm them, stop people from coming across, and defend this great country.”

Title 42, for reference, “allows the US Border Patrol and US Customs to prohibit the entry of persons who potentially pose a health risk.” It is a “public health and welfare statute enacted in 1944 that gave the U.S. surgeon general the authority — later transferred to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — to determine whether communicable disease in a foreign country poses a serious danger of spreading in the U.S., either by people or property entering the country.”

According to the LA Times, in October of 2021, there had been 1.3 million “expulsions of migrants at the border without offering them the opportunity to request asylum or other humanitarian protections” due to Covid.

Bannon highlighted how politicians in states like Texas, which are dealing with their own border crisis, talk a good game on border enforcement but later throw up their proverbial hands and walk back the actual enforcement by claiming it’s a federal matter.

The show host asked whether Lake, if elected as governor, would participate in the same performative politics around the border and claims a lack of authority has their hands tied. Lake responded that she would crack down on border enforcement, saying the authority for states to protect their border does indeed exist.

“We do have the authority and it’s right there in the Constitution, Article 1, Section 10 – we’re being invaded and we have the right to protect our people and protect our country. Time is of the essence here, the longer this goes on, the less we have a country.

“And so I encourage the current governors sitting in all of these states, especially the red states, I know they’re not going to do anything about it in New Mexico and in California – but in Texas and in Arizona, let’s band together, join forces, make an interstate compact, and protect our borders from this invasion.

“And it truly is an invasion Steve, it’s going to get worse. As of tomorrow, if the CDC pulls this Title 42, we’re going to see an explosion of people coming across the border and they do have the ability to do this. Do they have the will to do this? That is the question.”
