According to reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow will take place near the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.

According to Sky News, Zelensky’s office announced in a fresh statement that the two delegations will meet ‘without preconditions’ near the Pripyat River.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko spoke with Zelensky earlier today, February 27.

‘Alexander Lukashenko has accepted responsibility for ensuring that all planes, helicopters, and missiles stationed on Belarusian soil remain on the ground during the Ukrainian delegation’s travel, talks, and return,’ according to the statement.

Zelensky earlier declined to meet with a Russian delegation in Belarus because he feels Minsk is involved in the Russian invasion, but he did not rule out talks in other locations.

According to BBC News, following Zelensky’s call with Lukashenko, the statement read: “We agreed that the Ukrainian delegation would meet with the Russian delegation without preconditions on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, near the Pripyat River.”

Belarus and Russia have yet to issue a remark on the issue. Further complicating the potential discussion is the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the country’s nuclear deterrent forces to be placed on ‘high alert.’

Time will tell if the two meet or if tension and violence continue to escalate.
