In recent weeks, Russia has come under scrutiny as more that 100,000 troops have been spotted near the border of Ukraine. Although no military action has taken place on either side yet, President Joe Biden spoke on the matter during a recent press conference and suggested he believed an invasion was imminent. It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has consistently denied any preparations for an attack or invasion on Ukraine. Still, on Sunday, Biden’s State Department ordered an evacuation of diplomats and their families, stating, “military action by Russia could come at any time.” The order from the Biden administration has led to a harsh response from Ukrainian officials.
According to a source who claims to be close to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, they said Zelensky, “does not think there’s any remotely imminent threat to Kyiv.” They added, “The fact that the US was the first one to announce this is extremely disappointing and quite frankly these Americans are safer in Kyiv than they are in Los Angeles … or any other crime-ridden city in the US.”
The source also blasted the Biden administration for running when tension with Russia heated up. “On the one hand, [Washington tells Ukraine] how we should democratize. We stand with you. It’s your right to determine to join the West. We will stand with you against Russian aggression. Then Russia turns up the temperature and they’re the first to leave.”
While changing the travel advisory to “Level 4 – Do Not Travel”, President Biden called for the Pentagon to put 8,500 troops on standby for deployment if Russia decided to move on Ukraine.
Ukraine’s response to President Biden happens to be their second response in just week as Biden recently downplayed the movement from Russia as nothing more than a “minor incursion”. Zelensky would tweet, “We want to remind the great powers that there are no minor incursions and small nations. Just as there are no minor casualties and little grief from the loss of loved ones. I say this as the President of a great power.”
