Following the massive cancel culture movement in the United States, many corporations around the country have rebranded themselves to be more appealing to customers. And the latest company to make a change is none other than the makers behind the beloved M&Ms, Mars. Wanting to be “more inclusive”, Mars has decided to cancel their “sexy girl” character who was portrayed as a green M&M with white go-go boots.

Making the announcement on Thursday, the candy company stated the decision was in an effort to honor its “global commitment to creating a world where everyone feels they belong, and society is inclusive.” They added, “M&M’S branding will also reflect an updated tone of voice that is more inclusive, welcoming, and unifying, while remaining rooted in our signature jester wit and humor.”

Mars insisted the move was nothing more than a step to bring a “sense of belonging for 10 million people around the world by 2025.”

Releasing a promotion to kick off the new changes, the green M&M appeared excited about news, saying “I think we all win when we see more women in leading roles, so I’m happy to take on the part of supportive friend when they succeed.”

Not only would Mars announce the change, but they also tweeted a image that suggested the Ms. Green and Ms. Brown might have a deeper relationship than just friendship.

Cathryn Sleight, Mars Wrigley’s Chief Growth Officer, was excited about the new direction taken by the company. “As one of the world’s most iconic candy brands, who better to commit to a world with more moments of fun by increasing a sense of belonging around the globe than M&M’s?”

President of Mars Wrigley North America, Anton Vincent added that all characters were getting an update. For example, Orange will no longer have untied shoes and won’t be given an anxious personality. Instead, he will be more confident and supposedly “embrace his true self, worries and all.”
