BIG RAPIDS, MI – A 74-year-old history professor at Ferris State University has been suspended following a profanity-laced tirade he delivered to students in his class orientation that was delivered via Zoom – calling the students “vectors of disease” in his diatribe.

During a January 9th Zoom class, Ferris State University Professor Barry Mehler deviated quite a bit from what college students would expect when being given the rundown of a class during the kickoff of a new semester. Instead of students learning solely about typical class expectations, attendance and grading policies, Mehler mildly interwove those elements into a bizarre and profane rant.

Among some of the strange statement made by Mehler, he pointed out is that there’s nothing students can do in his class to secure a grade based upon their merits, saying that he assigns letter grades randomly.

“So, what you really want to know is, ‘How the fuck am I gonna get out of this course alive and with an A?’ That is the real question,” the teacher ranted. “How does this asshole professor grade? Well, let me set your mind at ease about that. You don’t have a thing to worry about because there’s absolutely nothing you can do – you have no control over your grade. It doesn’t matter how fucking hard you work or how great your grades are – my grading system is based upon the Calvinist doctrine of predestination. I figure if it’s good enough for America, it’s good enough for me.”

Mehler explained his random grading system in no uncertain terms, adding, “None of you cocksuckers are good enough to earn an A in my class, so I randomly assign grades before the first day of class. I don’t want to know shit about you, I don’t even want to know your name – I just look at the number and I assign a grade. That is how predestination works. And don’t come fucking complaining to me, take your complaints to God – he or they, this system – not me.”

When it came to Mehler explaining the attendance policy, it was delivered in a similar fashion to his grading. He continued, “Listen folks, I’m old enough to be your grandpa, and you people are vectors of disease to me. So when I look out at a classroom filled with 50 students, I see 50 selfish kids who don’t give a shit whether grandpa lives or dies. And if you won’t expose your grandpa to a possible infection with COVID then stay the fuck away from me. If you don’t give a shit about whether grandpa lives or dies, by all means, come to class.”

The video has managed to amass over 230,000 views online, which university president David Eisler described the rant as “profane, offensive and disturbing and in no way reflects our University or its values.”

Mehler has since been placed on administrative leave from the university, where he confirmed that in his own short video clip uploaded to YouTube on January 13th.
