Like a dog returning to its own vomit, Donald Trump can not stay away from Georgia. In January he poked his snout into the Senate runoffs there and managed to lose both races and control of the US Senate to the Democrats.

He returns to the scene of the crime to divide the Republican Party because an incumbent Republican governor refused to illegally and unethically knuckle under to Trump’s crazy demands to cheat for him in a presidential election recount. Because Brian Kemp put his duty to Georgia over the rantings of this low rent sidewalk Caesar, Trump now has targeted him for defeat at the hand of one of the Senate losers, David Perdue.

Kemp will likely have to face Democrat Stacey Abrams in the general election. So the last thing he or the parry needs is a divisive primary. But Trump doesn’t care about that. He just wants revenge and he is willing to injure a popular and capable Republican governor to get it.

If the nation and the Republicans are lucky, Kemp will beat Perdue and the bloom will start to come off the Trump rose for enough Republicans to look somewhere else in the campaign of 2024. If not, Trump may still win in 2024. But the nation would be better served by another Republican in the Oval Office.

FNC: “David Perdue, the Trump-backed former senator, will challenge Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp in a Republican primary face-off next year. He announced the move Monday.

The announcement sets up for an epic GOP civil battle in Georgia, where President Biden edged Trump by a razor-thin margin. The winner will face likely 2022 Democratic nominee Stacey Abrams, who narrowly lost to Kemp in 2018.

Perdue, who was narrowly defeated by now-Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in last January’s Senate runoffs, was recruited by former President Donald Trump to oust Kemp over his refusal to help the then-president’s efforts last year to overturn the election results in Georgia.”

Kemp spokesman Cody Hall slammed the move. “The man who lost Republicans the United States Senate and brought the last year of skyrocketing inflation, open borders, runaway government spending, and woke cancel culture upon the American people now wants to lose the Georgia governor’s office to the national face of the radical left movement,” Hall said. “It may be difficult for David Perdue to see this over the gates of his coastal estate, but Joe Biden’s dangerous agenda is hitting hardworking Georgians in the wallet and endangering their livelihoods – and we all have David Perdue to thank for it. Perdue’s only reason for running is to sooth his own bruised ego, because his campaign for U.S Senate failed to inspire voters at the ballot box – twice,” Hall added.
