Not a day after President Joe Biden was forced to hold off on his outlandish spending package thanks to a fellow Democrat, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), the President has once again found himself on the losing side as another Democrat, Senator Kyrsten Sinema, (D-AZ), stalled his plans to alter federal election laws.

With the 2022 midterm elections just around the corner, the Biden administration has been promoting new election integrity laws that are supposedly for the better. One of the pushes would get rid of many of the voter ID constraints. President Biden declared, “If we can get the congressional voting rights done, we should do it. … There’s nothing domestically more important than voting rights.”

But while Biden might be hoping to change the process of elections, Sen. Sinema has been adamant about protecting the 60-vote filibuster. As it stands, 50 votes are needed in the Senate to cancel the filibuster. If that were to happen, it would take nothing more than a majority vote to drastically alter America’s election process.

Spokesman to the Senator, John LaBombard told outlets that Sinema won’t sway on the matter. “She continues to support the Senate’s 60-vote threshold, to protect the country from repeated radical reversals in federal policy which would cement uncertainty, deepen divisions, and further erode Americans’ confidence in our government.”

LaBombard added, “Senator Sinema has asked those who want to weaken or eliminate the filibuster to pass voting rights legislation which she supports if it would be good for our country to do so.”

The Democrats have been highly concerned about the election process since the start of COVID-19. The party is worried COVID-19 protocols won’t be applied in 2022, and therefore will make it difficult for them to win elections. These COVID-19 measures included voting by mail.

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) recently discussed voting rights and stated, “I don’t want to become too dramatic. but voting rights may be the only thing we have to at least halt the trek away from democracy.”

Another Democrat, Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) added, “I don’t want it to be constrained by trying to do it before the end of the year. I don’t know that you have to do it before the end of the year. I just want us to get a bill done that will help preserve this democracy because if we don’t, I think we’ve lost this democracy.”

And trying to speak on behalf of all Democrats,  Al Sharpton warned that Democrats will lose voters if they don’t change voter laws. “An inaction at this point would lead to an inaction of Black voters. People are saying, ‘If they don’t do this, I’m not voting.’ People are saying they feel betrayed.”

On the other hand, others feel betrayed that Congress is considering stripping states of their own rights to determine their election laws. Additionally, removing a requirement for voters to show ID was on the table, which endangers the safeguards for our elections.

Who do you think would win the Presidency?
