CHICAGO, IL – Not only are the Democrats unwilling to admit that the wonderful defund the police movement they promoted backfired, but now, as crimes increase, they are trying to pin the blame on retailers.

First pushed by the Black Lives Matter movement, the Democrats quickly latched on to the idea that criminals would naturally go away and civilians would just police their own.

Their outlandish fantasy has led to places like Chicago being overrun by violence, robberies, and lawlessness as understaffed police departments struggle to curb the influx. But according to Mayor Lori Lightfoot, it isn’t her fault.

On Monday, the Mayor suggested that retailers step up their efforts to secure their stores as the crime increase is apparently nothing new. “I’m disappointed that they’re not doing more to take safety and make it a priority. We still have retailers that won’t institute plans like having security officers in their stores, making sure that they’ve got cameras that are actually operational, locking up their merchandise at night, chaining high-end bags. These purses can be something that is attracting a lot of organized retail theft units.”

At the crime summit at the University of Illinois at Chicago, the surge of crime was one of Rob Karr’s, the CEO of Illinois Retail Merchants Association, main points. He said, “Stores now number one, and number two is a safety question. It used to be taxes and regulation. It’s now one and two safety. It’s determining their livelihood, where they are going to locate, whether they’re going to locate, and their viability. That’s how bad this problem has gotten.”

Although it was because of the Democrats that crime is so high, State Rep. La Shawn Ford (D-Chicago) added, “We have to make sure that we don’t allow our city to be torn up. We have to send a strong message that it’s unacceptable and that if you do, we have to arrest you. But once you arrest them, you have to help them.”

While just an opinion, the best strong message might be a strong police presence.
