Just in time for the holidays, as millions of people around the world were hoping to celebrate with family and friends, the news broke that a new mutated strain of COVID-19 had arrived.

That’s right, the “Omicron” variant of COVID-19 is being held as a super strain as some claim it is three times more contagious than the original coronavirus.

Being initially discovered in Botswana before quickly spreading to South Africa, numerous countries, including the U.S., have instituted travel bans.

But while the new variant will definitely be weaponized to attack those who remain unvaccinated, it should be noted that the first four people who caught the virus were fully vaccinated. 

Although the information is still coming out about the new strain, the Botswana government released a letter stating that the new variant cases “were reported and recorded” on November 22. “The preliminary report revealed that all the four had been completely vaccinated for COVID-19.”

The government also added the new variant “was detected on four foreign nationals who had entered Botswana on November 7, 2021, on a diplomatic mission.”

According to the statement, “The quartet tested positive for COVID-19 on November 11, 2021, as they were preparing to return.” 

While a new variant of COVID-19, it was reported that those who were in close proximity of the infected had “no COVID-19 symptoms and have tested negative for COVID-19.”

Even South Africa’s medical chief Dr. Angelique Coetzee revealed that she had only witnessed “very, very mild cases” of the new variant since being reported. She added that it was nothing more than a “storm in a teacup.” 

 

But although doctors suggest that the new strain is nothing to concern yourself about, for now, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said, “You could say that this is Covid-21 instead of Covid-19: it is three times more infectious than the original virus.”

On top of De Croo’s remarks, the U.K. Health Security Agency (UKHSA) also seized the new “Omicron” variant, describing it as “the worst one we’ve seen so far.”
