Bodycam footage from a Glendale Police officer showed the disturbing moments from an incident earlier in November where a man armed with a knife was tased by the officer, falling after being tased and stabbing his own neck as a result of the fall.
The incident occurred on November 23rd after authorities responded to a “suspicious” fire at approximately 6:00 p.m., according to Glendale Police spokesperson Sgt. Randy Stewart. One of the officers on the scene told a man outside of the house authorities responded that he cannot go inside the house because “it’s not safe.”
The subject then stands next to the officer, which bodycam footage depicts, and produces a large kitchen knife, which the officer makes a quick attempt to grab it. The officer tells the subject, “Let me have the knife. Put the knife down,” The subject ignored said commands and began walking away – clinging the knife to his upper chest.
With the subject continuing to ignore the officer’s commands to drop the knife, the officer deploys his taser. As the man falls face-forward on the ground via the delivered shock, the knife he clung to plunged into his own neck.
Suddenly the officer is heard yelling, “The knife is in his neck,” which a nearby firefighter comes to assist in rolling over the subject where the knife can be seen protruding out of the subject’s neck.
Officials reported that the individual was treated for his injuries, but the exact status of his wellbeing has not been conveyed as of this writing.
