CHICAGO, IL – A shooting near a gas station in the 8000 block of South Ogden Avenue resulted in two officers getting hit Wednesday evening. Police were alerted by a license plate reader that a vehicle was wanted in connection with a murder. The vehicle was being followed by a police helicopter and stopped at the station for gas.

Police initially said there was an “exchange of gunfire” and that both officers were taken to the hospital. One was listed in serious condition, the other in fair condition.

Police surrounded the suspect as he exited the gas station store and an altercation took place.

The shooting appears to have resulted from an officer’s gun having accidentally discharged during a struggle with at least one suspect.

Police Superintendent David Brown said that one officer was struck in the arm and another in the shoulder. Police believe the one officer’s gun discharged and hit both other officers.

Two suspects were taken into custody and reportedly not treated for injuries. One firearm was also recovered from the suspect’s car.
