At this point, it seems that every new month President Joe Biden is in the White House, another potential dilemma presents itself. While the Southern border is still an issue and Americans taking a stand against the vaccine, apparently countless cargo ships are being left to sit at U.S. ports around the country, creating yet another crisis. With many stores being left with empty shelves and customers demanding answers, the one person in charge, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, has been a no-show, leaving many to wonder exactly where he is.

For the past several weeks, with the supply-chain crisis mounting, many Americans and reporters have gone from asking where Buttigieg is to outright demanding to know what is happening. And although the White House continues to be silent on the matter, Politico’s West Wing Playbook was able to track down the mysterious man and confirmed on Thursday that the transportation secretary was literally “laying low.”

Releasing his whereabouts, Playbook reported, “They didn’t previously announce it, but Buttigieg’s office told West Wing Playbook that the secretary has actually been on paid leave since mid-August to spend time with his husband, Chasten, and their two newborn babies.”

Apparently, with his location known, the Democrats want to talk as a spokesperson for the Department of Transportation confirmed that Buttigieg was away from the office. The spokesperson was sure to add, “For the first four weeks, he was mostly offline except for major agency decisions and matters that could not be delegated. He has been ramping up activities since then.”

Pressing the White House for more information about Buttigieg, an official said, “Pete’s been a key member of the team since Day One, and has been critical as we shepherd the President’s agenda across the finish line. We’re overjoyed for him and Chasten, and believe every American should have access to paid family leave.”

Although many retail and grocery stores are reporting massive shortages, Dawn Huckelbridge, director of the group Paid Leave for All, praised Buttigieg for going on paternity leave. “It absolutely reflects changing norms and changing needs. I’m thrilled that the secretary did that and showed that work and family go together.”

It is unclear if Huckelbridge is still thrilled with Buttigieg, given that America is about to face record shortages going into another harsh winter.
