“I love what I do. I don’t love it enough to sacrifice my medical freedom,” said Brown, who has been a nurse for decades.

Brown went on to explain that she’s spent a lot of time praying about this.

“God has me on this path, and he has a plan. I don’t understand it, but I’m going to do it,” she said.

Brown added that she is not an anti-vaxxer and has been vaccinated against various infectious illnesses, including the flu. After working in the hospital and seeing the suffering of COVID-19 patients, she also does not deny that COVID-19 is real.

While Brown believes that those with underlying health problems should get vaccinated against COVID-19, she feels that both her healthy lifestyle and years of exposure to germs and viruses at the hospital will protect her from the coronavirus. She thinks that she’s at such a low risk of complications from COVID-19 that it’s not worth the potential risks from the vaccine.

Brown warned that it’s too early to know whether COVID-19 vaccines will cause long-term harm to those who get them. .

“Three years from now, I hope I’m totally wrong and there are no untoward effects. I’m not willing to take those risks,” she said, expressing her fears that the COVID-19 vaccination could change how her body responds to viruses in the future in unpredictable ways.

As for how this will all impact Brown financially, she said that she’s built up enough vacation time built up that she can get paid for 10 weeks at 20 hours per week. This will let her keep her family medical insurance for 10 weeks, and this covers her plus her husband and two sons.

“I see the injustice happening. Unless we take a stand, what’s next? That to me is worth the job and the medical insurance. I’ll figure it out. I’ll flip burgers if I have to,” she said.

Brown lamented the fact that she thinks hospitals and other medical facilities will lose a broad range of workers when the vaccination mandate goes into effect today.

“Nobody is going to win in this,” she said. “That is the saddest part about this.”

Brown is hoping that Governor Kate Brown (D) will reconsider and rescind this mandate as soon as possible.
