Northwell Health, the largest health care provider in the state of New York, fired 1,400 workers for being unvaccinated this week.

A spokesperson for Northwell Health confirmed to Fox News today that it “had to exit” 1,400 staff members, going on to boast that 100% of employees at the health care provider are now vaccinated.

“Northwell regrets losing any employee under such circumstances, but as health care professionals and members of the largest health care provider in the state, we understand our unique responsibility to protect the health of our patients and each other,” the spokesperson said. “We owe it to our staff, our patients, and the communities we serve to be 100% vaccinated against COVID-19.”

The spokesperson added that having a staff that is fully vaccinated will allow Northwell to “provide exceptional care at all of our facilities, without interruption and remain open and fully operational.”

“Northwell believes that having a fully vaccinated workforce is an important measure in our duty to protect the health and safety of our staff, our patients, and the communities we serve,” the spokesperson continued.

Northwell Health’s network includes Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, Long Island Jewish and LIJ Forest Hills in Queens, and Staten Island University Hospital.

“Northwell Health is proud to announce that our workforce – the largest in New York State – is 100 percent vaccinated,” the health care provider said in another statement. “This allows us to continue to provide exceptional care at all of our facilities, without interruption, and remain open and fully operational,” the hospital network said in a statement.

“Northwell has taken a rapid, aggressive approach to move successfully toward full vaccination compliance while maintaining continuity of care and ensuring that our high standard of patient safety is not compromised in any way,” the statement concluded, according to The New York Post. “We thank the vast majority of our employees who did the right thing and got vaccinated.”

Gov. Kathy Hochul (NY-D) has been pleading with medical workers around the entire state to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“To those who have not yet made that decision, please do the right thing,” Hochul recently said. “A lot of your employers are anxious to just give you the jab in the arm and say you’re part of the family, we need your help to continue on.”

Our country needs all the health care workers we can get right now, so it’s absurd that New York is firing so many simply for not getting the vaccine. These workers should be free to make their own decisions on whether or not to get vaccinated without worrying about their jobs.
