Chinese Communists Menacing Taiwan

It will get worse.

The Chinese, like Hitler in the 30s, are preparing for war. The most likely issue that will ignite it is Taiwan. The Chicoms are counting, again like the German madman, on weak Western democracies run by weak Western leaders to give them a pass over Taiwan. On the leadership front they have a window of opportunity between now and January 2025.

Biden will not defend Taiwan because of the hatred his party has for the defense of American interests, its love of authoritarian socialism, and the possible compromise of Joe Biden himself over business dealings between his family and the Chinese Communists. Newt Gingrich spells it out.

Gingrich: One of the greatest national security challenges threatening America is the danger of a war with communist China over Taiwan.

After President Joe Biden’s disastrous surrender to the Taliban in Afghanistan – in which he didn’t consult or even inform our allies – the importance of supporting Taiwan’s independence is greater than ever. America’s failure to keep our 42-year public commitment to Taiwan would be devastating. It would shatter America’s reputation as a reliable nation, and countries around the world would become more likely to accommodate the Chinese Communist Party.

Our entire global alliance system would collapse. The shift to a communist China-dominated international system would be immediate. Mao Zedong’s 1956 comment that America was, “a paper tiger. Outwardly a tiger, it is made of paper, unable to withstand the wind and the rain” would prove to be prophetic. It is impossible to hold together a global coalition if the central power is a paper tiger.

The threat to Taiwan is real and could come sooner than people expect. Chinese Communist Party leaders have produced a wave of threatening articles and speeches about retaking Taiwan. The nearly 150 military aircraft that flew near Taiwanese air space this month are signs of Beijing’s growing desperation to conquer what it regards as a breakaway province. American support for Taiwan has been a continuing irritant to the communist dictatorship. From its perspective, Taiwan is the 19th province of China. Its leaders are seeking to “reunify” the country.

As Secretary General Xi Jinping said on the 100th birthday of the Chinese Communist Party, “Solving the Taiwan question and realizing the complete reunification of the motherland are the unswerving historical tasks of the Chinese Communist Party and the common aspiration of all Chinese people.”

Despite Xi’s words, Taiwan sees itself as increasingly distinct from mainland China – even though a large percentage (about 26 percent) of Taiwan’s trade is with the mainland. Furthermore some 2.7 million mainland Chinese visited Taiwan the year before the COVID-19 outbreak. The Taiwanese people have a growing economy, a robust democracy, freedom of the press, and no desire to follow Hong Kong into the Communist totalitarian dictatorship…

To avoid war, we must prepare for it diligently and thoroughly. As President George Washington said in his first annual address to Congress on Jan. 8, 1790: “To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.” Washington was echoing Roman Gen. Vegetius, who said in the fourth century “If you want peace, prepare for war.” The key is to develop a powerful, fully prepared Taiwan which is so formidable it would be hopeless for China to try to conquer it.

We can be very certain of one thing – the CCP are fully aware of the current weaknesses of the United States of Americas’ leadership – a word I use figuratively and not literally ! Fortunately Taiwan does have other friends around the World – perhaps not so potentially menacing as America – but well-armed and decisive ones when it comes to defending the status-quo.
If I were inside the leadership of the CCP, I think I may look very carefully at the global picture and not rely on the absence of a true American leader to define my decisions ! China also enjoys the present balance in trade and military terms – life is easier when a profitable Peace dictates the running of an empire.
