While school districts continue to debate if students should be forced to wear face masks at schools, one school district isn’t so much worried about COVID-19 as the impact a pro-police flag could have on its students. Although the Marysville Middle School supports Black Lives Matter posters and LGBTQ messages, the school views a Thin Blue Line flag as a “political symbol” that could ultimately lead to a disruption. Claiming one of their staff is breaking the rules, a teacher is now being forced to take down her pro-police flag.
Speaking to Jason Rantz on KTTH, the teacher explained that she didn’t put the flag up to be political, but it was more about her brother, Chris Sutherland, a former officer for the local police department. Not to mention, Sutherland was also the resource officer when the local high school was subject to a shooting.
Welcome to the Hypocrisy Party, Marysville Middle School in Washington. A place that promotes the hate and division caused by lgbtxyz and blm, but publicly rejects their support of law enforcement.

Still, Sutherland was alerted of the situation when human resources sent a document showing “concerns about how students, families, and community members might interpret what the image is intending to communicate and that this interpretation may cause a disruption to the learning environment.”
Sutherland added, “They told her that it’s controversial to have that flag up. That it makes kids and staff feel unsafe, which to me, that does not make sense at all.”
And according to the school district, if the teacher does not abide by the rules, it “may result in further disciplinary action.”
While she vows to fight the school district, her brother expressed how much the district’s decision is hurting her. “It’s hurtful because I can hear in her voice how much it actually hurts her being told to [take down the flag]. So when [she] and I talk about it, back and forth, it’s frustrating because I know how much she cares and how much this means to her. For her to have to go through that, … it’s just not fair.”
As for the teacher, she responded to human resources, saying, “I was proud to come back as a Marysville Alumni and begin teaching here in 2014. I remain hopeful for the remainder of the school year.”
