On Sunday, NBC’s Chuck Todd said that President Joe Biden is dealing with a “pretty big credibility crisis.”

Recent polling has shown Biden underwater in a number of areas – from foreign policy to approval and national unity.

NBC’s political director made his remarks during a talk with MSNBC host Willie Geist on “Sunday Today.”

Todd On Biden’s Rough Go

The pair noted that Biden was currently dealing with the U.S.-Mexico border crisis, confirmation that a U.S. drone strike had killed an Afghan aid worker and his family (despite claims that it killed a terrorist who posed an imminent threat), and also the FDA’s announcement rejecting the idea of COVID-19 booster shots.

Further, there’s a diplomatic crisis with France, in which the French ambassador was recalled after the Biden administration and Australia scrapped a plan for the Aussies to purchase French submarines.

All this comes before Biden is set to address the United Nations.

Geist asked Todd, “How is the White House managing all this, and what do you expect to hear from the president at the U.N. on Tuesday?”

Todd replied, “I think he’s got a pretty big credibility crisis on his hands. Because all of these problems, in some ways, showed up after he said something basically the exact opposite.”

“Afghanistan withdrawal wasn’t going to be messy,” Todd continued. “This wasn’t going to look like Saigon.”

“The booster shots, he came out and essentially said eight months, and even indicated maybe we should start it as soon as five months,” Todd added. “Now we’re not sure if anybody under 65 is going to get a booster shot.”

Biden Could Find Himself Under heavy Scrutiny During United Nations Speech

Todd then turned to the Biden administration’s border policies – or lack thereof.

“We can talk about the border problems say they’re years in the making, but it’s pretty clear we have a bigger problem now than we’ve had in years,” Todd said. “And this is a — these policies have turned into becoming a magnet.”

Biden is scheduled to speak before the United Nations on Tuesday, where Todd believed Biden’s leadership will be under harsh scrutiny.

“He’s got a lot of work to do. The U.N. speech, he has credibility issues on the world stage,” Todd said. “To say make sure that people still view America as a — not just a stable democracy, but a competent leader of the free world right now.”
