As the race to recall Gavin Newsom tightens up, optimists on the recall side are starting to get nervous. Will a deep blue state reject a deep blue governor? The polls say it may not. But that does not stop Larry Elder from taking courageous conservative stands.
His latest is a proposal to ban racist and leftist critical race theory in California schools. At first glance this might seem like a limitation on freedom of academic inquiry. A ban on free thought is something loved by zealots of all political persuasions. But on closer inspection critical race theory is nothing more than recycled Kluxer bigotry refashioned for the modern left. It is bereft of the intellectual credibility that would make it a fit topic for the instruction of students, just as the teachings of Julius Streicher do not hold a prominent place in American higher education.
But to do this Elder has to get elected first. Polls can be wrong, as they were for Brexit and the 2016 US presidential race. However, combined with demographics and past election returns they can make a very good guess. Our call? Sadly, Newsom stays in office.

FNC: “Larry Elder, the frontrunner among California Republicans vying to become governor through a recall election, would support legislation banning critical race theory in public schools, he told press during in an interview. Elder is the leading replacement candidate in the California recall election. But a Sept. 5 poll showed 53% of voters would keep Gov. Gavin Newsom in office. Newsom only needs a simple majority to keep his position.
Elder commented, Critical race theory “teaches little white boys and girls that they are oppressors and little black boys and girls that they are eternal victims.” Elder told Fox News, “I submit to you that systemic racism is not the problem and critical race theory and reparations are not the answer. My preference is for local school boards to decide what the curriculum is, but I think this is so bad and so insulting that I would look into some legislation like that,” Elder said.
But the powers that be in the ultraleft California educational establishment have a big investment in CRT. It, and related hiring practices, are how many of them gain and keep their jobs. The California School Board Association describes critical race theory as a “practice of interrogating race and racism in society and the ways in which it impacts people. It emphasizes race as a social construct with social significance and acknowledges that racism is embedded within systems and institutions that replicate racial inequality — codified in law, embedded in structures, and woven into public policy.” That is baldfaced racism, no matter what race is targeted. It has no place in education at any level.
