Over the weekend, while thousands of illegal immigrants flooded the border, America’s fabulous celebrities congregated at the 73rd Emmy Awards. And although COVID-19 is still very much a thing, it is apparent that if you are famous – you’re immune. Even comedian and actor Seth Rogen poked fun at the awards and how they were indoors and the number of people in attendance. Still, as both politicians and Americans weigh in on the matter, Los Angeles County, where the awards were held, stepped in to defend the maskless Emmy Awards.
It should be noted that while the celebrities were maskless, all the hired help for the show were required to wear a mask at all times.
As for L.A. County, they claimed the Emmys are a television production and therefore they are oddly exempt from the mask mandate that is imposed on the citizens of California.
In a statement, they said, “The Emmy Award Show is a television production, and persons appearing on the show are considered performers. All persons appearing on or in the audience of the Emmy Award Show were fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The Emmys reached out to Public Health in advance to share their safety protocols, which exceeded the baseline requirements for television and film productions,” LA County added. “Careful planning before large events is essential to assure that all health and safety requirements are adequately addressed.”
On top of their statement, Fox News did note that “the department was told that all attendees tested negative for COVID-19 within 48 hours of the event. Similarly, production crews were required to be vaccinated or test negative for the virus twice per week.”
But although the guests might have all tested negative, the CDC still advises any person, vaccinated or not, to wear a mask indoors. And while L.A. County might defend the move, their own public health website states, “EVERYONE*, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a mask” in “all indoor public settings, venues, gatherings, and public and private businesses in Los Angeles County.”
