Joe Biden no longer believes life begins at conception. He did up until recently and for a very long time. His possible pandering on this issue is repugnant in the extreme.

FNC: “President Biden on Friday appeared to change a position he had just six years ago on whether life begins at conception. His comments came during a press conference where he discussed Texas’ recently enacted abortion law.

It’s unclear what changed but his statement came amid a whirlwind of controversy surrounding how Biden adhered to his Catholic faith in office. The section of the Catholic Catechism discussing abortion says that the procedure and infanticide ‘are abominable crimes…The inalienable rights of the person must be recognized and respected by civil society and the political authority.” The Church also states that “when the state does not place its power at the service of the rights of each citizen, and in particular of the more vulnerable, the very foundations of a state based on law are undermined.’ ”

“I respect those who believe life begins in the moment of conception – I respect that,” he told reporters Friday. “Don’t agree but I respect that.” However, Biden said in 2008 and 2015 that he thought life began at conception. In 2008 he said: “I’m prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception.”

“I’m prepared to accept that at the moment of conception there’s human life and being, but I’m not prepared to say that to other God-fearing, non-God-fearing people that have a different view,” he said in 2015.

 

This story has an interesting personal side for this analyst. You see, I used to go church with Joe Biden. In 2016 I was a college instructor in Wilmington, Delaware. That is Biden HQ. We both attended a small Latin Rite Roman Catholic Church in Wilmington. It had a very small congregation, as Latin Rite churches many times do. I will withhold the name of the parish because I don’t want to get them into any political controversy.

The parish was very traditional both in liturgy and theology. Biden attended more than once and seemed to have no issue whatsoever with the conservative religious ideology of the parish. He could have gone to other less conservative churches, but he went there.

Let it be said, even though he was the veep at the time, he made no fuss. I said hi to him a couple of times and he gave me a friendly and confident response. But in many ways, that Joe Biden is gone. He’s pulled a reverse Bush the Elder, as Bush was said to be privately pro-abortion, but trimmed his public sails to be ideologically acceptable to the Republican Party.

What goes on in Joe Biden’s soul is his own business. But if he’s changed his position on abortion to please a left wing political constituency, then the voters are the least of his worries. In God’s good time, a more definite reckoning will await him.
